Accommodation In Picton

Picton is the gateway between New Zealand's North Island and South Island. The inter-island ferry service runs out of this seaside town, so our Picton hotels are the perfect base to explore both sides of New Zealand.

Things to Do

Picton is part of the Marlborough Sounds region, and here you can watch dolphins playing in the sea, go sea kayaking or just enjoy the picturesque landscape. The seafront around the harbour is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat too, because there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and takeaway shops here, along with views to die for.

If you head to the Ohau Stream, you might be lucky enough to see some fur seal pups playing at the base of the waterfall. You can check out more local marine life at the EcoWorld Aquarium, where you'll not only see fish, but also Little Blue Penguins, tuataras, lizards, turtles and a Giant Squid. The famous 71km long Queen Charlotte Track is another place to spot some local wildlife, and it's suitable for walkers of all abilities. If you want to walk the entire track, it will take you about four days, but shorter walks will still allow you to take in the breathtaking scenery.

The Edwin Fox Maritime Centre is another must-visit. This floating museum is home to the world's ninth oldest ship, the Edwin Fox, which Florence Nightingale apparently took a trip on. It is also the only surviving ship that was used to transport convicts from England to Australia.

Getting Here and Around

Wellington Airport is about 65km away from Picton and, when you land, you'll need to take the ferry to get here. Once you're here, you can get around by bus or car. If you'd like a vino adventure, a great day trip is out to the Marlborough wine region, only 70km away.

Grab hold of one of these cheap flights to Wellington, book your Picton accommodation with us, and you'll be enjoying the riches of the region in no time!
