Whangarei is a developing, modern and vibrant city in the centre of a district of fertile farmlands, orchards and forest, plus a stunning harbour and coastline with some of New Zealand's finest beaches.
Whangarei has many beautiful parks and walkways. Right in the centre of the city is Mount Parihaka with is varying trails to the summit and spectacular views of the city and sarrounds. AH Reed Kauri Park features a tree-top boardwalk which passes magnificent 500 year old kauri trees; and the Whangarei Falls known as the most photogenic waterfall of New Zealand. The district has many more outstanding walkways and vistas.
The 270 kilomerters of exquisite coastline features remote coves, dramatic headland, off-shore islands and world class diving. This pacific playground includes Bream Bay, Whangarei Heads and the Tutuakaka Coasst, all popular safe swimming, good surf breaks and plentiful fishing. The Tutuakaka Marina is the access point to the world renowned Poor Knights Islands, one of the top dive locations in the world. With the Bay of Islands, kauri forests, Matakohe Kauri Museum and beautiful coastline only a short drive away. Whangarei is the perfect base to come and stay for your Northland escape.
