QUALMARK RATING 5 Stars..We have 4 luxury ensuite units, each with its own entrance, all on the ground floor and are air-conditioned. One unit has wheel chair access, its bathroom comprises of a shower, toilet and hand basin and heater. The bathrooms of the other three units have shower, bidet, toilet, heater and double hand basins.
All units have bi-fold doors that open on to private decks that look over the village and bay, from here you can watch the most spectacular sunsets. The units are smoke-free but ashtrays are provided for use on the deck, which is furnished with a table and chairs. You have the choice of a super king size bed or two singles. There are 2 leather recliners in each room, a table and chairs, air conditioner, TV with Freeview access, radio/CD/iPod, DVD player. The units have kitchenettes with 2 plate glass top hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and all necessary utensils. All units have original paintings by South African artists.
The laundry with washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board is also on the ground floor.

Being a historical town, we have Pompallier - a 1840's working tannery, printing and bookbinding museum housed in the Catholic Mission Building. Christ Church, the oldest church in New Zealand, with musket holes reminding us of the turbulent past. If you feel energetic take a walk up Flagstaff Hill "Maiki", where the flagpole was chopped down 4 times by Hone Keke, otherwise use your car. Do a tour of Russell with Russell Mini Tours which will also take you up Flagstaff Hill.
Russell Museum has a fine 1:5 scale model of Captain Cook's Endeavour, watch an interesting 10min video of the local history. Swimming, within walking distance, on western side is the Russell foreshore which is a pebble beach with grassed areas, Longbeach (best all tide swimming beach)is on the eastern side. A 5min drive will take you to Rocky Bay or Tapeka Point which is a safe swimming beach.
Travelling south are many small bays and about an half hour drive will take you to Elliot's Beach which is a surfing beach. Wineries - there are a number of wineries all within a 10min to 1 hour drive away. Walking Tracks - some leisurely other are for serious hikers. Fishing - surf, rock of charter boat. Scenic Flight or parachuting - 30min drive. Bowls - local club welcomes visitors. Golf - Take care ferry and enjoy a game at either Waitangi or Kerikeri.
Dining out - Russell has a number of restaurants and bars. A 15min passenger ferry takes you to Paihia for further dining experience. Boat trips - Hole in the Rock, Dolphin and whale watching trips, if you like speed the Excitor or Mack Attack is the way to go. Spend a day or half a day on one of the local fishing or yacht/sailing charters. If you have excess energy, help sail the tall ship R. Tucker Thompson or just relax and let others do the work. Other water based activities - paragliding, scuba diving or kayaking from Paihia.
Bus tours that leave Paihia, eg Cape Reinga via Ninety Mile Beach, not a problem take passenger ferry to Paihia. Day trips taking the ferry to the main land, Waitangi, the site of the historic signing of the treaty between Maori and Queen Victoria's government.
erikeri with its Stone Store which is the oldest stone building in New Zealand built 1833/1836. Kemp House is the oldest surviving building in NZ - 1821, built of wood it still has its original fittings and chattels. Visit the local vineyards and the Makana Chocolate Factory.
