Blanket Bay
**Blanket Bay is in GLENORCHY, 45km from Queenstown** Surrounded by some of New Zealand’s most spectacular scenery in the heart of the Southern Alps, nestled at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu, forty minutes by car from Queenstown sits Blanket Bay. Blanket Bay is built in the grand style of the finest alpine lodges finished with native timber and stone. The facilities include a heated outdoor lap pool, comprehensive spa facilities, a health and beauty suite and a magnificent games room complete with a complimentary bar. At the heart of the Lodge is a 30 foot high Great Room with its massive log fireplace, vaulted wharf-timber beams and antique wooden floors. Milford Sound: Journey into Fiordland, taking in the Sutherland Falls, alpine lakes, seal colonies, Mt Tutuko’s glacier and Milford Sound itself by either helicopter or fixed-wing plane. Helicopters fly from the front lawn of the lodge. Light aircraft operate from the on-property airfield.
Jet Boating: Jet Boat on the Dart River: It's more than a jet boat ride - it's a World Heritage eco-journey into the heart of wilderness New Zealand. Navigating deep into the alpine corridor of Mount Aspiring National Park, the challenging grandeur of the mountains and valleys will leave a lasting impression. Discover ice-capped mountains and glaciers, cascading waterfalls and crystal clear streams and pools, all while enjoying the thrill of being aboard your purpose built jet boat that picks up and drops off at Blanket Bay's private jetty.
Funyaks: Begin the adventure with a Dart River Jet boat trip upstream, remove the sound of the V8 and replace it with bird song and cascading waterfalls as you paddle to Paradise in your inflatable canoe. Glaciers, rocky peaks, dense rainforest, crystal blue waters and shady chasms can be enjoyed from the serenity of your canoe. An adventure perfect for a family!
Hiking, guided or unguided: Mt Aspiring National Park is famous for its walking tracks, which include the Routeburn, Caples and Greenstone valleys. Most walks are at most a half hour drive from the Lodge - simply ask us for a detailed map or a walking guide for the day. Shorter walks are available from the Lodge and the local village of Glenorchy.
Horse Riding: Explore the surrounding sheep and cattle stations on horseback from our neighbouring farm station with the constant backdrop of the Wakatipu.
Fishing: Discover one of our local rivers with a guide and experience our New Zealand style of catch and release fly-fishing. Or simply cruise around Lake Wakatipu spin fishing for local trout or salmon.
Paradise Tandem Skydive operates from our airstrip. Blanket Bay guests who jump land on our front lawn!
Kayaks & Mountain Bikes: We have two ‘sit-on-top’ kayaks for use in the bay when conditions are suitable and mountain bikes for those who wish to discover the area further.
Arrowtown/Queenstown and the Vineyards: The Wakatipu basin is home to many well-known artists and artisans. Combine a visit to some of the galleries with a wander through the historical gold mining village of Arrowtown and lunch at one of the local vineyards.
