The Grand Hotel is 110 years old and still retains much of its olde world charm. We have a magnificent staircase leading up to 29 fully serviced rooms all of which have ensuites and are at affordable prices. Stay in Room 48 where Queen Elizabeth ll stayed in 1953. Or in our newly refurbished Room 35 that has the balcony from which she waved to her subjects on that Royal Tour. We have 3 bars, one of which is the Shunters, the only public bar in the City, another is the original cute and cosy house bar, not many of these small intimate bars still exist in todays hotels. Our conference room has an impressive large open fire and is furnished with some of the original lounge suites, it also has an adjoining room with a stunning polished floor and once again original dining tables and chairs. There is a Thai restaurant on site.

Whangarei is the hub of Northlands many marine based aquatic activities and is the centre of Northlands cultural activities. There is a very active restaurant and bar scene. The Town Basin is a must see with vibrant cafe life. The beautiful bays of the Tutukaka Coast are a half hour drive away.
