Napier Accommodation

Napier’s greatest natural disaster led to the creation of what is today the biggest drawcard to our Napier accommodation. After an earthquake in 1931 completely destroyed almost every building in the town, Napier was rebuilt from scratch. As they had a clean slate to work with, the people of Napier replaced the buildings entirely in the Art Deco style that was fashionable at the time.

Today the historical town of Napier is home to the largest concentration of Art Deco construction anywhere in the world. The architecture is protected and celebrated at the annual Art Deco weekend, which attracts visitors from all over the world. During the Art Deco weekend the streets are filled with yesteryear enthusiasts often in vintage cars and clothes to complete their nostalgic 1930’s experience. This February influx of tourists is more than catered for all year round, as the streets are lined with boutique shopping, café’s, restaurants and gift shops. Napier’s location on the Hawkes Bay coast means there are always plenty of things to do on the water and on the waterfront, while staying in a Napier hotel. Marine Parade offers excellent views of the bay as well as one of the most photographed icons in New Zealand, Pania of the Reef. Often likened to the statue of The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, Pania was an ocean maiden of Maori legend.
