On The Beach Backpackers is easy to find, a large colourful building situated right across from the beach on Buffalo Beach Road, Whitianga. The Lodge is unique in the way we have several different types of units, some sleep four or five, other units sleep six, eight or twelve people, and each unit has its own kitchen and bathrooms. All of the kitchens are fully self contained and linen is free for our guests, the double and twin rooms are made up with towels. Then we also have dormitory and share rooms, many of our units have wonderful views out over Mercury Bay. On The Beach is a fifteen minute walk into the town centre, where there is a large supermarket and many restaurants, cafes and bars. Each individual unit has a television and DVD player and we have an extensive library of DVDs available. We have free kayaks and boogie boards available for our guests, which they can use right across the road on Buffalo Beach. We have a three and a half star qualmark rating.

Related options

Local attractions, Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove are only a thirty minute drive south, from Whitianga. Guests can hire a bicycle from us and take the ferry to Ferry Landing a cycle around the beaches to Hot Water Beach and Hahei or alternatively there is a local shuttle bus.
Snorkling, diving and fishing trips are all available in Whitianga and we can help with any bookings or information. Horse riding is a popular activity, as is surfing, windsurfing, adventure ropes, combat zone and bone carving.
The Lost Spring, is a five minute walk from the Lodge, where you can have a hot soak, cocktail beside the pool or massage. Guests are welcome to use our kayaks and boogie boards free of charge, over the road on Buffalo Beach.
