New Zealand’s first National Park, Tongariro, has been recognised and protected since 1887. Since then the area has expanded to include the three volcanoes Mount Ruapehu, Mount Ngauruhoe, and Mount Tongariro as well as the Pihanga Scenic Reserve. In winter our Tongariro National Park accommodation is ideal for your ski holiday. The ski fields of Whakapapa are just 20 minutes away and you will find everything you need to get ready to ski in the village, from ski gear to lift passes.
Don’t think that Tongariro is a winter only destination though; our Tongariro hotels are an excellent location in summer as well. Once the snow melts there is a whole other world to explore, like the Tongariro Crossing. One of NZ’s great walks, it will take you across the top of Mount Tongariro past some amazing geological features including the famous Emerald Lakes.
