Very handy to Parnell and the Spark Arena

Pros: The couple running it were nice and very friendly. Nice breakfast supplied with the room. Great location, very handy to Parnell.
Cons: The cleaning of the rooms could be improved. The bathroom towels were a little marked, so perhaps they should launder them a bit better.
Location: Very handy to Parnell shops and restaurants, and to Spark Arena.
Rooms could do with a spuce up, nice old villa though. The breakfast was nice, and we got it at a good rate due to booking over six months ahead. Air con or a fan in the bedroom would make it more comfortable, as Auckland can be very humid. There are no lifts, so you need to use the stairs to stay there, not good if you have bad joints. Nice couple running the chalet but I don't think we would stay there again.

Dated and misleading

Pros: The owner/manager seemed nice enough.
Cons: replace outdated carpet throughout - repair rooms and replace fixtures that are old are rusty.
Location: Plenty of stuff to do !
Room booked was a king - was given a single room with a stained carpet in basement with a open window at street level. Woke up to find cockroaches in the shower - went out to the city for the day and locked the window because of my stuff being in the room (Macbook pro ect) and return to find the room cleaned - dead cockroaches missing from the shower and my street level window wide open ( this was to clear the musty smell of the room i understand) . Clearly they do not care about personal belongings or there guests stuff as both could have been stolen. I booked for two nights they never mentioned the roaches to me. it was such a bad experience that i left after one night and did not return even though i paid for two.

Fawlty Towers

After booking on Wotif we arrived at the hotel only to find the doors locked and several people trying to contact the staff. Eventually, I called the listed number and got through to a lady, who clearly was not pleased to be contacted. After a short exchange where I was being told that I had missed their check in time (none of this was evident on Wotif or notifications sent by Wotif). The lady then, proceeded to ask me when I had booked (it was several hours before, but not relevant to the discussion). Eventually the lady passed me on to the ‘manager’ who was with her. This gentleman was even more abrasive than the lady, he insisted to know what time I had booked, argued with me regarding what was advertised on Wotif and generally had the ‘why are you bothering me’ vibe. He then suggested that I go out to dinner and come back later when they had finished whatever they were doing. I insisted that they come to let us in, which they did, reluctantly 10min later. The interaction made the stay of just one night a bad experience, to their credit they tried to be extra nice and rrepair the relationhip, however, this seemed insincere and was too late. Accommodation itself was ok, it fit in with the area and some may enjoy that type of thing. Not if you like modern convenience though..

Great location and charming hotel

Pros: Comfortable, great breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: The room needed a bit of cleaning in the nooks and crannies. The window, and under the bathroom shelf, a couple of cobwebs.
Location: Short walk to the many nice boutiques and cafes of Parnell. Scenic view over the harbour from the hotel. Close the Domain and the Auckland Museum.
Lovely, cosy room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Chalet Chevron is a charming little place to stay, perfect if you like to have a nice, quiet spot but still close to the attractions. The Domain gardens are a short walk, as are the boutiques and cafes of Parnell. It is a historic building, and the room was quaint and comfortable. Excellent if you want a homely place to stay outside the busy CBD.

Tiny Rooms.

Disappointing. Was ok, but expensive for what it was. Dated rooms, and no room. Breakfast was ok.

pleasant and cosy homestay

Pros: The service was outstanding.
100 year old residence converted into boutique hotel/homestay. The age of the building shows in some of the facilities. That said it is a comfortable place to stay in a handy location and the owners went out of their way to provide a great service.

Tiny single room, stained carpet : $140

Pros: Sachets of kiwi plum jam at breakfast, the nice view from the breakfast room.
Cons: Needs refurbishing - it could still retain it's "shabby chic" identity. Replace horrible faded/stained carpet reminiscent of a boarding house & old TV
Location: Fancy shops and nice restaurants in Parnell.
Pleasant greeting from proprietors watching TV in the hotel lounge, lovely view from the dining room at breakfast, downstairs single room reached by steep stairs with very faded orange carpet, astonishingly tiny room with old-style TV on a wall bracket. Good water pressure in the small shower. Beige carpet in the room had greyed around the edges, shabby feel over all but no smell or signs of dirt or grime. Why not replace the carpet and give a refresh to the details of the room? Shabby chic is fashionable now but better if it's not the original now turned shabby and stained after 30 years of use.
