We had a group of 2 families, 4 adults and teens 14/15/16/17/18. Ideally we would have liked 2 x family rooms, but online booking back in June showed none available, and would only let us put a maximum of 2 ppl in each room, so we ended up with 5 rooms (quite a bit more pricey). Then when we were there we saw unoccupied family rooms and some of the rooms we were allocated had a Queen a single, so would have accommodated 3 people... bit disappointing that the online booking did not match the actual capacity and availability. Possibly they had some later cancellations due to COVID restrictions. Enquired on arrival if we could shuffle things a bit, but understandably it was too late by then as rooms had already been made up and they obviously couldn't sell the 'surplus' rooms this would have created. They did say that some rooms were currently undergoing renovation and they were waiting on furniture to arrive. Restaurant food and service was great - rooms were great. Toilets off the restaurant were a bit tired.

Hi Michelle You are right that we could on most cases accommodated you in more suitable rooms. Unfortunately we have been waiting on new furniture to arrive since August. We expect this to finally show up this week so we will be able to finish off the refurbished rooms and get all of our rooms in use. So hopefully next visit we will be able to fit you in more comfortably. I am glad to hear that you enjoy the stay though and thank you for coming to visit.

We had a terrific room that looked straight onto the bush. Lovely bird song. Amenities were fine and staff always happy to provide more if needed. Very well situated for walks in the N.P. and water taxi stop offs. Our luggage was brought to our room and delivered to the beach which was appreciated. Meals were really delicious. Not inexpensive but standard very good.

Great service. Friendly and accommodating.

Pros: Having access to an oasis in the middle of a National Park was fabulous after a days hiking. Great cafe for those passing through too.
Cons: NA
Location: Awaroa inlet and beach are very close by and the Marahau water taxi's boats heading in and out of the national park were also 5 minutes walk away.
Staff were very helpful. We had a family bereavement and staff were very accommodating with trying to work out how we could change our booking at very short notice. Very understanding, and the place was great too. A welcome relief to have a bit of luxury by the beach after staying in busy DOC huts elsewhere. We would definitely come back and stay here. Great food and very relaxing even at Christmas time.

Beautiful room

Pros: Location
Cons: Food
We were upgraded to a superior suite which was beautiful, with a lovely balcony overlooking the wetland. Staff were friendly but not very professional but we came on the last day of the season which might explain it. Breakfast was very nice but overall quality of food was very average. Although it is an eco lodge it isn't really that remote, with so many boats in everyday. A real shame that the vegetable garden is completely neglected, surely Peppers could get a couple of Woofers in for a season. Outstanding location and that's what you are coming for.

Kia Ora fishwife, thank you for the feedback. It's good to read that you enjoyed your upgrade and on of our superior suites. Arriving on the last day of the season is always challenging and as much as we tried to provide the same experience as in the middle of the season, it is hard to get it out of your head after being in the Lodge for a whole season. It's good to read that you think we are not that remote as most vendors and tradies tend to disagree as soon as we need something rather urgently. The vegetable garden indeed got neglected at the end of the season, it was absolutely intended though as there are major changes happening in there over the winter with a re-design due. I hope we can welcome you back next season so you can see it for yourself. Best regards,

Pros: Absolutely stunning service, great food, large light rooms and decks visited by resident fantails...
Cons: No biggie, but when staying longer a bit more variety on the menu would be a bonus.
