Nouméa Car Rentals

Can we say it? Now this is the island life. Noumea is the capital city of New Caledonia, an island chain about 1200km east of Australia. A visit here will have you questioning if you really need to call this trip a holiday, or if it’s more of an “extended sabbatical”.

The city is modern and the most populated place on the island, but it’s got heaps of French charm, and you won’t be left wanting for places to kick back and relax in.

And if you’re itching to move around, you’re in luck. With one of Wotif’s Noumea car hire deals, you can explore all corners of the archipelago’s largest island, Grande Terre.

Go Cruising

Begin your day at the Aquarium des Lagons, where you’ll get up close and personal with protected lagoon waters and linger at the turtle pond long enough to catch a few of them sunbathing. Because that is the cutest.

If you head just 4km north, you’re at the doorstep of history. Or on the front steps of the Musée de Nouvelle Calédonie, at least. Some of the exhibits might be in French, but ask for a croissant and you’ll fit right in.

Better yet, head just around the corner to the coast of the Quartier Latin, where your stomach won’t lie: the bistros are serving up a dinner worth savouring. Head back to one of the top hotels in New Caledonia, and a full night’s rest awaits.

Road Trip!

New Caledonia may not sprawl far and wide, but booking car hire in Noumea still opens up opportunities for a day trip or two. After all, New Caledonia is about 400km long. Pass by rainforest and watch turquoise water glisten in the distance on your way to Kone, 264km north of Noumea. An up-and-coming destination, the fruit trees and new restaurants here will put hearts in your eyes.

Continue about 120km northeast to Hienghene, where you can either take an obligatory photo of The Brooding Hen rock just offshore or pay a fine.

Just kidding.

Book your Noumea car rental here on Wotif, and you can use the savings for a snorkel trip or an extra bottle of wine—your call. Either way, your New Caledonia holiday is worth writing home about, assuming you can tear yourself away from the beach.
