Luxary Accommodation surrounded by wineries

Pros: The unobtrusive way the staff handles the necessary work around the guest The gourmet kitchen that would not be out of place in Paris or London
Cons: The gym and pool are good but in comparison to the rest are not to the same standards
Location: Great wineries in close proximity Close to the beach and sea
We were on about relaxation and good dining and Mangapapa was the perfect retreat. We used the exercise room, sauna and had massages. Then we enjoyed some sun by the pool and the joyful songs of the birds in the surrounding bush. In the evenings we were delighted with scrumptious cuisine and fine wine.

Relaxed and peaceful stay

Pros: Quiet and relaxing, elegant but informal - staff made us feel very welcome and the food was excellent.
Location: Close to the village of Havelock for shopping and God coffee and then an easy drive/visit out to the vineyards at Te Awanga.
Wonderful property - elegant but relaxed atmosphere. We only stayed one night but were that impressed that we're already planning our next stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and inviting - super comfy bed. Overall thought it was value for money and that we were looked after very well.

Disappointing - Not Five Star Service

Pros: The food was excellent and on the night I was able to eat in the dining room, Chef was most considerate and attentive - I was the only person!
Cons: The service is certainly not Five Star and considering the booking was made in advance there is no excuse for lack of facilities in the suite.
Location: Very pleasant surroundings and many Vine Yards nearby to visit and of course Napier the Art Deco city.
Considering this is classed as a 5 Star Boutique Hotel there are many disappointing aspects. On arrival, New Year's Eve, I was informed the dining room was fully booked no matter that I was a hotel resident. Room Service was agreed, however my meal was initally delivered to the wrong suite and then I had to seek out a member of staff to arrange for desert - as the kitchen was now closed the barman, rather reluctantly had to organise this. There was no table linen, salt and pepper, or water provided - certainly not five star room service! There were no bedside lights (I was informed they were in the container coming from overseas!), but as the room was reserved, in advance, for two nights other arrangements should have been made. There was no space in the beautiful bathroom for putting either ones clothes or 'sponge-bag', or the showergel in the shower. No full length mirror although the bedroom was extremely spacious. The sitting room, with large screen 'state-of-the-arch' TV was comfortable however a complimentary bottle of wine (it is Hawkes Bay) and other soft drinks would have been an idea.

Luxury escape in beautiful Hawkes Bay

Pros: The lodge itself is beautifully decorated, the rooms are generous, the gardens are lovely to walk at sunset but best of all was the food - world class
Location: Rural location but only minutes to Havelock North, Hastings or Napier. But you don't need to leave the lodge - everything is here.
A last minute change in our travel plans saw us luck upon Mangapapa Lodge - so glad we did. We didn't need to go anywhere else which after a day of travelling and another one ahead of us was perfect. Everything we needed or wanted was available to us - a real treasure!
