Very unique property with beautiful gardens. The room we stayed in was large but cosy. The bed was super comfortable and the linen luxurious.

Who Go Basic When You Can Stay at the Manor?

Pros: It's elegance and isolation while still in town, the care taken, the personal service, the privacy.
Cons: What would you want to improve? Transport is necessary. Shops and dining are down the road. No big deal.
Location: The Historic Section of town is straight down the hill, as is the penguin rookery with viewings. There is an Opera House. Check out what is on.
When you see the title The Manor Estate, it is either what it says, or something trying to sound grand. In this case, it is what it says. An original manor house for the district on large grounds standing on a hilltop just off the highway south to Dunedin, still very much in the town limits. Much of the original house is restored and used for weddings and such. An attached ballroom and stage is also still made use of. The accommodation is in several themed rooms at the back. They are as beautifully fitted and maintained as the site pictures suggest. Bathroom is off the available living room and kitchen. Your hostess lives in site but leaves you alone till breakfast which is prepared and presented in the kitchen. Indulge yourself at a reasonable price. The town in known for its Steampunk museum and festival; the author Tara Moss stayed here when she attended. Popular with overseas tourists because of what it represents of colonial/national culture. Be a tourist!

Grand heritage home.

Pros: Beautiful grounds (even for winter), lovely host, comfy bed, clean rooms, laundry facility, loads of privacy.
Cons: Really nothing to improve upon. We are used to forced air central heating and missed the warmth in every accommodation we stayed.
Location: The Blue Penguin Santuary was wonderful, probably right up there with our top experience.
Had a pleasant stay. Host was knowledgeable about the area and very helpful with suggestions. Great to see the heritage home with its lovely furnishing. Accommodation was very clean. Bed was warm and comfy.
