Holidays To Columbus

Christopher Columbus has so many places named after him, it’s ridiculous. The man has flags planted everywhere, including in Central Ohio.

That’s right, the capital of “the Buckeye State” bears his last name, and is a perfect place for you to escape to. Go to the zoo and meet the mountain gorilla Colo, then hang out in German Village with a bunch of Germans. Browse Wotif’s sweet offers for Columbus packages and we’ll see you there.

Things to Do in Columbus

This place is nicknamed “the Discovery City”, so during your holiday in Columbus, discover something. But first, get a vehicle from one of Wotif’s` Columbus car rentall options and then head over to the Franklin Park Conservatory to check out over 400 plant species. There’s biomes representing climate zones like the tropical rainforest, the Himalayan Mountains and the desert. Have you ever seen miniature trees? Take a walk through the bonsai courtyard and learn all about these little works of growing art.

After your conservatory walk, make the 37-kilometre drive over to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Go on a “Congo Expedition” and see animals like the African leopard, bonobos and Western lowland gorillas. One of the latter, Colo, was the first gorilla born in captivity back in 1956. She’s the oldest captive gorilla in the world—and she’s a real sweetheart.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

When you want to spend some of the money you saved with package deals to Columbus, go to Easton Town Centre and buy whatever you want. There’s major retail outfitters ranging from pricey to affordable, and plenty of other stores selling everything from electronics to trinkets.

Once your hunger sets in, you don’t even have to leave the mall to conquer your appetite. Take your pick from numerous restaurants ranging from fast food chains to places worthy of an anniversary dinner. You should also check out the German Village neighbourhood for some serious German dishes like schnitzel and juicy bratwursts.

If your Columbus holiday isn’t complete without testing out the nightlife, just stay in Deutschland Village and slam beer steins full of Bavarian lager together with the locals. Many of the watering holes in this section of town resemble old-school beer halls back in the “Fatherland”, and the atmospheres are just as rowdy.
