Overnight getaway excellence

There are a lot of reasons my daughters and I enjoy our stays at Millenium Rotorua. The indoor pool is a smash hit with the kids. The convenience and comfort are ideal. The spa area is another treat. Perfect for relaxing after a busy day of Rotorua outdoor activities. The location is convenient for getting in and out to see the sights. The staff are always pleasant, courteous and knowledgable. Any query is handled quickly and well. Another great aspect is how welcome the kids feel at Millenium. The staff treat the kids really nicely all the time. The facilities and room are first class, always.

No kitchenette facilities at all and lighting not sufficient. Right next to Polynesian spa which is convenient. Has a heated pool and hot pools which are good.

Excellent hotel in an accessible location.

Pros: The hotel had a pool.
Cons: The pool is right next to the breakfast and dinner buffet area, so an early or late swim is not a comfortable option.
Location: close to activities such as the Te Puia cultural evening, hot springs, Kiwi encounter and Canopy Zipline tours.
Clean and comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff, and plenty of parking spaces.

Classy hotel name but not as good as other ones.

The hotel brand name is known around the country. Have stay at a couple and have to say was a biy disappointed for the following reasons - shower in a club access room had no pressure & temperature not consistent. Goes from hot to cold. - requested a walk in shower but was given a show over bath room. - Club access canapes and drinks were very basic eg: cheese, pate, cold sliced meat, bread, crackers. - Club access staff wad asked about cider and was told it can only be purchased downstairs, but when my partner asked the staff willingly went and got the ciders. - Club access breakfast was also very basic. No hot and no signs to say they do it. It was pretty much toast, cheese, sliced meat, fruit and cereal. - The welcoming staff member mentioned they were fully booked at 8pm on a Monday night. When the whole time we were there 6 tables had been empty. 20 mins after being seated waitress comes over to take our drinks order - no drinks list on the table. No water was provided on the table. - Ordered a Lamb Rump (medium well) but it was plated to me as medium rare.

Pros: Location was convenient and huge lobby.
Cons: Cleanliness and need to upgrade room's facilities and decor.
Location: Great location, near to shops and centre of Rotorua.
The outdoor spa was really filthy. I booked because of the outdoor spa, but couldn't make myself use it.

A mixed but peaceful experience

Location: We went to the new XD Dark Ride. Definitely not for the faint hearted. We both found it terrifying and could not wait for it to finish.
It is often the simple things that let a place down and Millennium could fix those less than stellar experiences easily. The first is no WIFI in the room. There is Ethernet that you have to pay for. I was charged $12. This is prehistoric. The only free WIFI is in the reception/foyer area and you are considered privileged to be given 20 free minutes if you sit down in their foyer to do whatever you need. This is a horrible inconvenient experience harking back to another decade. A shower over a bath with a rubber bath mat so you don't slip is also very outdated. The oil column heater in the hallway outside my room appeared to be permanently on rendering the hallway unbearably hot. The buffet breakfast was good but the toasters are well past their use-by date and took a ridiculously long time to toast the bread. They should buy a commercial toaster like the Rydges in Wellington have. Simple but looks more upmarket than two toasters that can be purchased at Farmers. Brick bats aside, a bouquet for the pool which is fantastic, indoor and heated, I rate it as fantastic. I had trouble getting my 13 year old son out of it. He rates it as a highlight of his birthday trip. The room had two double beds and they were the softest most comfortable beds I have ever slept in at a hotel or motel. Again, fantastic and a bouquet to them for providing an excellent sleeping experience. The room was quiet and overall I found it a peaceful stay.
