Lovely hotel with ildcword charm

We had a lovely 1 bedroom suite in this beautiful hotel the room was lovely and the bed was super comfortable. The room was very quiet and it had great facilities available

Best location in town

First night got off to a shaky start but the staff and GM bent over backwards to make things right. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Nice hotel but don’t eat there

Lovely hotel but the restaurant food is overpriced and very average. I would recommend the hotel itself but don’t eat there. Also the hotel is near sulphur pools so very smelly if you plan to be on the deck outside your room.

Disappointing stay

Pros: Historic value and character.
Cons: Management of events.
We paid in excess of $350 NZD for a room for one night. Initially things went well, the staff were friendly and the room was clean and full of character. In the evening a party started in the hotel premises next to our room with loud music and voices. Tried to call reception three times on telephone but no answer. Had to go down in our robes to find the manager twice to protest the noise. Noise eventually subsided at 11:30 pm. The next morning I spoke to the General Manager Phil and he apologised and said he would send us a voucher for a complimentary one night stay to compensate us. Despite an email to hin to confirm this, we have heard nothing. Such a shame that such a historic, character filled hotel had such poor management.

Great character hotel, very central.

Pros: Location.
Booked this hotel as I was looking for something central and with a bit of character. This place ticked both those boxes very well.

Hotel was close to my work

Pros: location
Cons: water pressure in shower
Location: everything is close by and within walking distance
I stayed here as I was working for 2 days in an office in Arawa Street. It was handy, bed was very comfortable and good TV reception. This is a lovely old building in good condition, lovely opportunity to stay in a heritage building - that is being cared for.
