Disappointing stay

Pros: Historic value and character.
Cons: Management of events.
We paid in excess of $350 NZD for a room for one night. Initially things went well, the staff were friendly and the room was clean and full of character. In the evening a party started in the hotel premises next to our room with loud music and voices. Tried to call reception three times on telephone but no answer. Had to go down in our robes to find the manager twice to protest the noise. Noise eventually subsided at 11:30 pm. The next morning I spoke to the General Manager Phil and he apologised and said he would send us a voucher for a complimentary one night stay to compensate us. Despite an email to hin to confirm this, we have heard nothing. Such a shame that such a historic, character filled hotel had such poor management.

Hotel was close to my work

Pros: location
Cons: water pressure in shower
Location: everything is close by and within walking distance
I stayed here as I was working for 2 days in an office in Arawa Street. It was handy, bed was very comfortable and good TV reception. This is a lovely old building in good condition, lovely opportunity to stay in a heritage building - that is being cared for.

Great central location with charming character

Pros: The character
Cons: The buffet breakfast could be cheaper and a newspaper could be delivered to our rooms
Location: Polynesian Spa pools, the lake, restaurants and cafes
We stayed here for a work conference. The rooms were adequate, check in a breeze but the buffet breakfast was too expensive - it is cheaper to order a cooked breakfast instead!

Nice friendly place with lots of history

Excellent place to stay, we loved it. The room we had was directly above the kitchen so a bit noisy but we would go back anytime.

Good hotel for access to the theatre

Pros: The ambience and location.
Cons: Service for your dinner was very slow but breakfast was fine.
Location: Close to the Howard Morrison theatre, gardens and town.
Hotel is convenient to the theatre and town centre, has a lovely colonial decor and room was spacious.

Best place to stay in Rotorua

Pros: Its old world charm and hospitality
Cons: Better access to the second floor for someone with a disability
Location: Its very central to all activities in Rotorua
Well .... what can we say about this place Firstly we were greeted very warmly at reception which made us feel at home Our room was awesome and was bloody comfortable We dined in at the Hotels restaurant .... the meals were delicious (the vegetables were to die for) After dinner we relaxed in the lounge in some super comfy high back chairs by an 'open fire' enjoying an after dinner drink .... bloody heaven Thank you for looking after us :-) We are looking forward to return for another stay

Loved this place.

Cons: Breakfast - water not hot enough for tea. Food slow one day, and cool when it arrived. Poor quality meat. I would avoid eating here.
Walked each day into the gardens by the hotel, and around the lake. The comfort and atmosphere are special. The breakfasts need work!

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your feedback. I am disappointed to hear that water was not enough for your tea in the Breakfast room and the food was not upto your standard. Recently we have a new menu in place and have heard some great feedback. We hope to get another chance to serve you in the near future. Kind Regards

Furniture and carpet

Pros: Lovely historical building Clean comfortable beds and clean bathroom.
Cons: The room was very tired and in need of an update, very disappointing for the amount we paid.
The couches had very questionable stains on the seating areas, so bad we did not want to sit on them, the carpet was frayed and there were cobwebs in the bedrooms. The beds were clean and so was the bathroom. Empty or open packets of coffee were left in the beverages selection. The room was very tired and in need of an update, very disappointing for the amount we paid. You had to wait if you needed to use the toilet and someone was in the bathroom as to get to the toilet you had to walk through the bathroom.
