Accommodation In Ruapehu - Tongariro

Mt Ruapehu is situated on New Zealand’s North Island about 4 hours from Auckland and our accommodation in Mt Ruapehu is set against a breathtaking backdrop of the World Heritage listed Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks.

From one of our Mt Ruapehu hotels you can explore the amazing natural landscape of the Mountains and National Park regardless of the season. The parks are rich in flora and fauna and many treks and tours are run throughout the park by foot or boat and are a must for the explorer.

The Ruapehu region is the home of the spectacular scenery that lent itself to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Stay in our Ruapehu accommodation and take a LOTR tour, through the Ithilien camp, and all the way to Mordor, or up the outer edge of Mt Doom, which in real life is the spectacular Mt Ruapehu.

The Tongariro National Park is perhaps the main attraction of the area. It holds a special place many New Zealand hearts as it is the location of some of the most impressive natural marvels - the active volcanoes Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe and was also New Zealand’s first National Park. The volcanic hiking and skiing in the area is second to none and with our range of Ruapehu accommodation this feat is only a stones throw away.

Mt Ruapehu in winter is a haven for skiers and snowboarders alike, and as the largest developed ski area in New Zealand it is little wonder why. After all not everyone can say they have been skiing down the slopes of an active volcano. Snow season varies in Ruapehu, but generally runs from late June until early November.

Whanganui National Park features the magnificent Whanganui River, an excellent spot for the keen fisherman, when staying in our Ruapehu accommodation. Recently revitalised villages of Indigenous tribes spot the river banks and are just one of the many remarkable scenes that Ruapehu has on offer for you to experience.
