I expected more than I got since price was high for accommodation and meals.

Turtles swimming in the sea just beyond our villa. Small resort so guests and staff where very friendly. Special thanks to Silia, who kept our villa nice and clean, and Rosalina for the Samoan lessons

Why would you?

Pros: The pool area is beautiful, and I like that there is a cover over some of it, for shelter from the sun or storms, as experienced while I was there.
Cons: Rethink the entry to the rooms, and seal areas where creepy crawlies can get in. Also consider non-slip tiles.
The hotel has such potential, and is being renovated, but why would you have the entryway through the bathroom? I had to lift my case over the toilet to get in... And almost slipped on the wet floor tiles, obviously just been washed. And this was after I found that the room I had previously booked was occupied - I assume it had the same entry arrangement? And where some of the renovations are being done, bugs get in.

Overpriced and in poor condition

Pros: Great location on a nice beach. Food was good
Cons: Everything else needs improvement
Location: Had a lovely village tour with a sister of one of the staff. The north coast of Savai'i is spectacular.
This place was poorly built and maintenance is lacking. During our whole stay there was banging and sawing - yes we were warned of this on the website but why continue works right through the peak season? Our room had a musty smell which we couldn't air out. Air conditioner basically ineffective. Beds uncomfortable. Staff lack motivation - I don't think management clearly set an example of how they should relate to customers. For the same price (or less in fact) you can stay at one of the Sheraton hotels or any other place in Savai'i - go somewhere else.

Comment from Hotel Management

22 Jul. 2017 by Megan

Hi, and thank you for your review. We are trying to limit the banging and sawing as much as we can, but as the building work has taken longer then expected, it has to continue through busy period to get it competed. We have almost finished our brasserie and mainly have low noise parts to complete. In regards to the price, we offer lower prices then similar hotels in Savaii, and if Sheraton is more your choice of hotel, then it is best that you do stay on Upolu and not experience Savaii. My partner and I make a conscious effort to lead by example, so the comment re management confuses me. We clear plates, serve drinks and liaise with guests regularly which i would think in most peoples eyes would be setting a clear example. We are however holding training this week to boost service stardards. We pay above average and offer other incentives to our team to motivate them. As we are in remote savaii, finding staff is not easy, especially people who speak fluent english in a country to which customer service is not 'the norm'. We are working our best to train our staff to western expectations. By coming to Stevensons, and not staying at the Sheraton, you are supporting the local community and getting to experience real Samoa. But, if Western comfort is what you need, the Sheraton is good as you can close the curtains, and pretend you aren't in Samoa at all. We have also recently had a majority of our air conditioners serviced.

Great times in Savaii

Pros: Relaxed environment, accomodation on the beach. Staff were great, friendly and helpful.
Cons: They are currently undergoing renovations and once this is complete they will be even better, with a pool and extended beach bar.
Location: Stevensons had kayaks available to go out to the nearby reefs. Just three steps down and you are on the beach

Not a holiday resort

Pros: Beach was great and the dinner menu good.
Cons: Everything could be improved
Location: Larva village, turtles swimming and more great beaches all within reach.
We booked over six months ago and were never told about renovations and construction that was happening during our stay and 1/2 the facilities were not available ( we would not have booked if this was the case ) This turned out was the least of our worries and the whole place is in need of TLC. # Rooms are falling to bits, very basic, some things not working. # No hot water ( this was as simple as a staff member changing a gas bottle for the whole block but this seemed to hard for them and we repeatedly reminded them of the issue ) # Rat in the bathroom eating make up etc - it took them 2 days to come have a look and then did nothing of any consequence. The place had the feel that nobody cared , it was empty and had no soul - just felt like a low budget back packers not a resort. Staff were nice and I feel for the new managers as there is a lot to fix and I feel they will bare the brunt of many a compliant at the prices they charge for the services available. We were given a small discount as compensation but really damage was already done, we would have much rather had the rooms we booked and services expected of a resort.

Paradise

Pros: The room looked amazing, the staff were friendly and really helpful. Loved how our back deck basically stepped out to the beach.
Cons: Could possibly put lighting outside the back deck and put mossy traps where the outside showers are
Location: It seemed to have everything near by like shops and petrol station, even an ATM
We were near the end of our Holiday and the Hotel we stayed at prior to checking into Stevenson's wasn't a nice experience (to say the least). The room was amazing, the staff were so helpful and accommodating. It was the best way to end our holiday. Will definitely be raving about it to family and friends! Thank you to the staff for making our stay a memorable one!

right on the beach

Pros: The staff and the food
Location: Was a great location to stay
Went to sleep and woke up with the sound of the sea. Lovely beach. Saturday night was wonderful as the hotel staff danced and gave the guests a great show.
