Sydney Holiday Packages

If the famous Aussie landmarks and icons don’t impress you, something else in Sydney will.

This is the city where you can watch the sun set on the harbour from Australia’s most famous bridge, catch a captivating performance at the Sydney Opera House or cool off with a swim at a spectacular sweeping beach. Maybe you’d like a family-friendly activity like a fun park or aquarium, dinner in a world-class restaurant or some fine fashion from a historic shopping arcade? It doesn’t matter whether you’re rolling in cash or on a tight budget: Book your Sydney holiday package with us and you’ll always find something to do.

History
Sydney is the place where Captain James Cook first landed in 1770 to start a penal colony. In 1808, the only successful armed takeover of the government in Australian history occurred when the “Rum Rebellion” overthrew Governor William Bligh. Sydney officially became a Sydney in 1842, and the gold rush drew thousands of immigrants to the city a decade later. Today more than four million people live in Sydney, making it the nation’s most populous city, as well as the oldest.

Things To Do
If you’ve been hanging out to see Australia’s biggest icons (and we don’t mean celebrities, although there are plenty of them around too), you’re in luck. Shaped like a set of white sails, the Sydney Opera House is no less impressive on the inside, with dance, theatre, popular music and – of course – opera performed in a variety of venues on many stages. There’s more to Sydney’s theatre scene than the Opera House, though. Young Aussie actors flock here to make their marks, and you can watch them perform everywhere from the massive Lyric Theatre to an edgy indie venue.

If you like harbour views, you not only have the entire expanse of Sydney Harbour (and the other harbours of Port Jackson) to ogle – you can see it all in panoramic view from the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Book a BridgeClimb Experience for a guided adventure up the arches.

The birthplace of modern Sydney, The Rocks maintains its historic look with cobbled alleyways, restored sandstone buildings and old pubs.

Beach lovers can head straight to one of Australia’s most famous seaside spots: Bondi Beach. This beach has a long, golden arch of sand, clear blue refreshing water and outdoor pools and ocean baths. It’s surrounded by restaurants, shops, and cafes where you can pick up a delicious cappuccino before wandering beside the sea.

The whole family can enjoy Sydney’s attractions. Taronga Zoo has over 4000 animals to see. SEALIFE Aquarium has a number of zones showcasing everything from stingrays to starfish to sharks. Wander through Luna Park’s wide-open cartoon mouth for a day full of wild rides.

Shopping and Dining
If you’re a shopaholic looking for a fix, Sydney has shops with world-famous fashion brands and historic shopping centres like the Queen Victoria Building and the Strand Arcade. Pitt Street Mall is two city block’s worth of speciality stores and usual favourites. Sydney also has plenty of weekend markets – in locations ranging from The Rocks to Rozelle - where you can pick up something unique.

It’s no exaggeration to say you’re sure to find a great restaurant in Sydney whether you’re a strict vegan, a health nut, a fine diner or a fast food junkie. Chefs at the top of their game work with flavours from around the world. Business people warm up with hot meals in heritage-listed pubs, and baristas brew some of the finest coffee you’re likely to taste.

Getting Here
Lying on the beach, partying in the nightclubs, taking happy snaps with the icons or sitting down for a satisfying meal – a holiday in Sydney has it all, so stop living vicariously through postcards: Bundle your hotel and flights together on Wotif.com with one of our Sydney packages.
