I'll start with the positives as there are more than negatives! This retreat is exactly that- a retreat! Absolutely stunning roomy cottage with breathtaking views of the mountains & surrounding flora. The photographs do not do it justice! It would be perfect for a romantic getaway for a couple (or couples) or a solo trip in which you are seeking ultimate privacy and serenity. The Jacuzzi was sensational- we especially enjoyed the serene views and skylight. The host provides an abundance of breakfast and snack options free of additional cost so there is no need to bring nibbles! The premises has ducted heating throughout, so if a fireplace is not your thing you're covered. Beds have electric blankets which was a treat as we stayed in Winter. Negatives are the cleanliness of not so regularly used areas (dust). The communication with the hosts was non existent. I sent an email, left a voicemail and tried ringing the landline twice but there was no answer or reply. For this particular trip it was no big issue, however if it was an emergency situation this is not ideal. Also, I booked this accomodation as the description stated it was child-friendly and provided cots. Be warned this particular premises is NOT suitable for children under the age of 10!!! It is not baby-proofed at all, a lot of cupboards holding chinaware and antiques were in easy reach of a toddler! Having said that, I will definitely be coming back, but this time without children.

Comment from Hotel Management

25 Jun. 2020 by Mary

I’d like to thank Caitlin for the positive comments in her review but just to remark on a couple of points. It was a difficult week for us. My husband suffered a heart attack and was rushed to hospital for an emergency operation, and we had to rely on volunteer assistance for cleaning and setting up. It’s possible that in the chaos I forgot to forward the landline to my mobile while I was out, so apologies for the inability to make contact. As to suitability for young children, it does not seem to have been a problem for the many other guests with children who have stayed over the years; Caitlin is the first to have raised this issue. It is true that the majority of our guests are adults, and the Cottage is set up with their comfort in mind. I believe, Caitlin, I saw you when you arrived and told you there was a portacot in the Cottage. Best wishes Mary

The cottage is beautiful and has everything you could want or need for a a few days away. Mary and Chas were fantastic hosts. They provided generous breakfast provisions including fruit, bread and lovely wine. My husband is a coeliac and it was the small touches such as gf granola and bread that we really appreciated. Not to mention the coffee machine! The open fire was ready to light when we arrived but there is ducted heating if you are not keen on the fire. I can’t recommend this place enough - you won’t be disappointed! I give it 5 stars - Lisa

Relaxing & homely accommodation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Mary was very helpful & friendly. We stayed in the garden retreat which was so comfortable & clean. The celebration hamper was delicious, we would come back in the future.

Nice retreat in the hills

Lovely little retreat. It had everything we needed and they accommodated for our gluten free request. Only negatives were the lovely wooden floor could have been cleaner and the mattresses a bit worn with a noticeable hollow - not great for those of us with a bit of a back problem.

Home in the Garden of Eden

Pros: privacy & natural gardens, fresh fruit juice
Cons: shower over bath made a wet mess in the bathroom. Setup is awkward but next time we'd know to use the shower in the laundry instead.
Location: Plenty to do as very close to all attractions around Olinda.
Exceeded our expectations. The Cottage is very spacious and homely. There is a big spa that we unfortunately didn't even get around to use. We felt like the only people on the mountain - it's so private. A Lyerbird sighting from the balcony in the morning was another highlight. Really enjoyed out stay including exploring the gardens. The breakfast was also sensational. Take some mozzie coils though as getting bitten can spoil the best of ambiance.

Just what we needed

The accomodation is spot on, good ambience, surroundings to die for and all the finishing touches to make our stay something out of the ordinary. We'll be back.

Lovely retreat situated in stunning gardens

Pros: It is very tastefully decorated. The breakfast supplies were plentiful and we were provided with fantastic cheeses. It is a very secluded location.
Location: Next to Cloudehill nursery and guests at Woolrich can walk around Cloudehill for free. The walk at the bottom of the road (the Hamer arboretum )
this is a perfect place to hibernate during the winter. The interior is very tastefully appointed with a large spa bath. The outlook onto the trees is very calming. Sitting in front of the fire (with an endless supply of wood) whilst appreciating the wonderful outlook is very restorative.
