Journey to the famous Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland and discover Mother Nature’s wonders. Experience the natural world at its most dramatic, from hot springs and boiling mud pools to the eruption of the Lady Knox Geyser.

Depart Rotorua in the morning and head south through lush landscapes and greenery to the Wai-O-Tapu, an area of breathtaking natural beauty. Join your experienced guide on a walking tour of the area and see the Lady Knox Geyser come to life with a thunderous eruption.

Next, head to the beautiful Champagne Pool, and don’t forget to take pictures of this turquoise and orange hot spring. The orange colour originates from deposits of arsenic and antimony sulphides, and the name Champagne Pool is derived from the abundant efflux of carbon dioxide in the waters, similar to a glass of bubbly.

Proceed to the Waimangu Volcanic Rift Valley – a hydrothermal system created by the volcanic eruption of Mount Tarawera. Marvel at the sight of the Frying Pan Lake – the largest hot spring in the world – and keep a lookout for the native black swan, wood pigeon and pukeko, or purple swamphen.

Complete your tour at the craters of Rainbow Mountain. Enjoy panoramic views over two crater lakes that rest against a backdrop of colourful steaming cliffs and geothermal activities.

Trent and Brian took us on a fantastic morning touring the various geothermal areas surrounding Rotorua. Both guys were friendly and informative. They had a tremendous knowledge of the area and of the history of New Zealand. We would definitely recommend this tour to others, in fact a work colleague is travelling to New Zealand later this year and I have recommended this tour.
