5 reasons why you should holiday with your parents again

I never thought I would hear myself say the words “My holiday would be much better if Mum and Dad came,” but here I am not just saying it but sharing the revelation on the interweb.

After my last stint living in the family home, following a year abroad in Bangkok, I had sworn not to live under the same roof as my parents again. Now as a mother of two under two, I can give you five solid reasons why you should put the extended family on your travel booking in 2017.

Number 1. Sleep-ins – It’s simple maths. It’s a scientific fact that as you get older you wake up earlier. Add that to the fact that when you are a toddler you wake up with the sun and do the math. Grandparents up at 5am + kids up at 5am + everyone in one holiday apartment = Parents get to sleep-in + happiness for all!

Number 2. Date nights – Another formula here that’s relative to the one above. Early risers = early sleepers and with everyone safe in bed by 8pm you can squeeze in a guilt-free date night. Just be aware of the other calculation: too many champagnes = morning headache.

Number 3. Sharing all loads – Not only will two more adults mean shared cooking, cleaning and washing it makes family trips to the beach not only possible but fun for all. Not only is the work halved, so is the amount of sand you end up with in your togs.

Number 4. Reconnect – Putting all the abuse of their time aside, getting away with your parents provides you with an opportunity to spend time with them again like you did when you were a child. Plus by watching the way they are with your kids you can remember all the sweet things that they must have done for you as a child which you were too little to appreciate.

Number 5. Learning and keeping young – Kids are only young for such a short time and their relationships with their grandparents is so important. So if you are lucky enough to have two amazing sets like I do you should take advantage of every minute that you get to share with them and your kids.

See it’s not all selfish 😉
