If you’re a big spender rather than bargain hunter, Palma Real Shopping Village is the best stop for brand names and big stores. Wherever you shop, there’s one thing you must buy: Larimar jewellery, made of a sky-blue crystal that is found only in the DR. Souvenirs don’t get much more unique than that!

If you want to trade your thongs for, you know, real shoes, there are tons of fancy Italian, French and American restaurants at the hotels. But don’t be boring—get off your resort and get down on some real food! The beachfront dining is endless and delicious, serving up super-fresh lobster, king crab and all kinds of fish. With a bucket of Presidentes and the cool seaside breeze, you could stay here all day (and actually, you probably will).

When night falls, club-goers should make another wardrobe change and head to Bavaro Beach, which has the best discos and a formal dress code. If you never took off your boardies and you’re sure not going to now, it’s all good. Go further north to Cortecito Beach for hookah lounges and beach bars where you can come as you are.
