Greece Holiday Packages

The world can thank Greece for many great things: democracy, the Olympics, souvlaki and tzatziki.

And while you won't be casting a ballot during your Greece holiday, you'll probably sample a menu of roast lamb, moussaka, spanakopita and olives of every shade of black and green. You’ll have to be a Greek god to keep a fit figure on this trip, but in between meals, you can burn it off by visiting the sites of ancient athletic competition and venerated ruins.

Things to Do in Greece

If you're feeling over the hill, just look up the hill in Athens to the Acropolis. This historic site has dominated Athens’ skyline for thousands of years, surviving war, theft and nature. You’re just a kid compared to it! Next, visit the architectural site at Delphi. There's no longer an oracle there to give you advice, but the hike up the plateau and the extraordinary ruins will make it seem like you have all the answers in the world.

About 300 km west of Athens, you’ll find Olympia and the ruins of the Olympic Games of antiquity. The Olympic torch is still lit here and then carried around the world for the modern games. You'll see remnants of the old gymnasium, the priests' house and the temple of Zeus, as well as other buildings that housed dignitaries. If you don't know which rocks are which, either look thoughtful and nod knowingly to hide your confusion or visit the nearby Archaeological Museum of Olympia to put it all together.

Greece holiday packages don't have to keep you stranded on the mainland. The country is famous for its hedonistic islands, notably the hilltop white houses on Santorini and its archipelago neighbour of Mykonos. Use one of Wotif’s Santorini car hire options to navigate the steep streets. Further south is the once-independent island of Crete, now a bustling destination for tourism. To the north is the island of Corfu, whose eponymous capital features ancient fortifications and twin castles.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Shopping is an activity in and of itself in Athens, where tourists can seek out deals on sportswear, luggage and clothing in the Monastiraki flea market district. Head to Kidathineon Street for traditional leather goods and don't be shy about haggling.

Kidathineon Street is in the historical district of Plaka, where you find restaurants serving Greek food in the shadow of the Acropolis. If you've had enough spanakopita during your Greece holiday, you'll also find international restaurants here, serving Indian, French and vegetarian cuisine.

Holidays to Greece can include a European clubbing experience: check out the huge venues by the beach or the more intimate settings in Athens' centre. Gaze at the Greek elite in Kolonaki or enjoy live jazz on Trivonianou Street.

"The Stanley was modern and chic. Staff was friendly, breakfast was AWESOME. Loved the view of the Acropolis. "The hotel is close to a metro stop which is very convenient. It is also next to a large traffic circle which can be loud at times. The windows do a nice job of dampening most of the noise. The neighborhood could be a little nicer but no real issues other than run down a bit with some abandoned buildings. ..."
