GUIDED TROUT FISHING- the rivers with an NZPFGA guide who can provide all your equipment boots, waders, vest,rods, reels, tackle plus picnic lunch provided. Lake fishing, hire a boat you can drive yourself or charter a fishing boat and skipper and let him or her take you to the best spot where you can catch that whopper!
SKIING - Ski Whakapapa ski field on Mt Ruapehu. Passes can be supplied for you from Kahotea House by prior arrangement and all ski equipment can be arranged by us before you arrive. Avoid the queues on the mountain and start a wonderful day's skiing from the moment you lock up your car in the car park.You may prefer to use one of the ski shuttle buses which cost $NZD40.00 return from Turangi i-site. They leave from 7am - 7.30am and return you to the i-site from 4pm -5pm at the end of the day. Let your hosts Richard and Shirley-Ann know you wish to use the ski shuttle and seats will be booked for you.
TRAMPING- tramps such as the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing. The bus to the beginning of the tramp will collect you from the i-site in Turangi at 7.30am and meet you at the end of the tramp and return you to the i-site. There is plenty of free parking beside the i-site.
The Tongariro river loop track begins at the north end of the SH1 bridge or at the southern end from the Major Jones footbridge, Koura St Turangi. It is a 1 hour walk.
At Kahotea House information on the many walks and tramps in the area is available.
HUNTING pig, deer and small game.
HORSE TREKKING- Guided horse treks.
GOLF- Wairakei International, Kinloch and local courses, for all levels of golfing expertise. At Kahotea House information on green fees is available.
KAYAKING - Kahotea House is close to wetlands with bird life such a several species of wild duck, Canada geese, black and white swans as well as the delightful native birds of New Zealand. Paddle amongst these waterfowl and watch them in their natural habitat. Paradise for birdwatchers and photographers.
ADRENALIN JUNKIES - bungee jumping can be found at Spa Road, Taupo over the Waikato River as it winds its way to the Huka Falls, truly powerful falls with thousands of gallons of water per second pouring through a narrow canyon of rock to a boiling pool at the end of the canyon making a terrific noise. Awesome to behold and hear.
WHITE WATER RAFTING -on the Tongariro, Rangitaiki and Wairoa rivers all close to Turangi township.

THERMAL POOLS- After a hectic day's activity how better to wind down and soak out the aches and pains than in the magic of natural hot mineral pools. Tokaanu 5 kms from Turangi has a private and public pool complex. Passes available for Kahotea House guests.

WEDDINGS- Thinking about eloping?
Your hosts Richard and Shirley-Ann can arrange everything for you. Shirley-Ann has been a celebrant for 16 years and has operated since 1997 "Wedding Essentials" a company which arranges small weddings for anyone just about anywhere in New Zealand. She can officiate at a civil marriage ceremony or New Zealand's civil union ceremony (can be a same sex union). You can choose one of the most picturesque places in the world. The central plateau offers mountains, tussock landscapes which look like you have landed on the moon. Lush, green, native forests and the beautiful shores of lake Taupo. You may wish to marry on a boat at either sunrise or sunset surrounded by the flaming colours of a romantic Taupo sunrise or sunset. The time of day is your choice. Richard and Shirley-Ann can arrange paperwork, celebrant, photography (your camera or theirs)videography, cake, flowers, hair and make-up for the bride. A relaxing therapeutic massage for him and her to soothe away those pre-wedding jitters. All you need to do is bring the bridal gown and the groom's suit and we will do the rest, creating for you both, perfection on your special day!
