This route is a perfect way to experience the true mountains of Almaty: glaciers, alpine meadows, high mountain passes, and wild gorges far from civilisation.

The Almaty Trekking tour combines a comfortable start, well-planned logistics, and a rich journey through one of the most scenic mountain region of Kazakhstan.

The route begins with a transfer from Almaty to Medeu, followed by a cable car ride up to 3,200 m. This allows us to reach high altitude quickly and enjoy panoramic views from the very first hours without a long physical ascent. From there, the trekking part starts with a descent into the Left Talgar Gorge, followed by a gradual ascent towards its upper reaches. Campsites are selected on site, depending on the availability of fresh drinking water.

On the second day, the route passes through alpine meadows and turns towards Tourist Pass (3,960 m). From here, stunning views of the Zailiyskiy Alatau ridges open up. Overnight stay is arranged near the moraine, in a location protected from the wind, ensuring comfort even in high-altitude conditions.

The highlight of the trek is the crossing of the snow-and-ice-covered Tourist Pass. Despite its impressive appearance, no special mountaineering equipment is required, making the route accessible to physically prepared hikers. After the pass, the route descends into the remote and rarely visited Kyzylsay Gorge. Overnight stay is planned at the confluence of the Kyzylsay and Ozernaya rivers — one of the most atmospheric locations of the trek.

The final day features a relaxed descent towards civilisation, mostly along an old dirt road. We will bypass Big Almaty Lake along a scenic trail and reach the meeting point with transport for the return to Almaty.
