Guess what? Boring ol’ Monday really is the best day to score the cheapest plane tickets. Looking at flight demand on Wotif.co.nz in 2019, we found that flights purchased on Mondays had the lowest airfares on average. How far in advance can you book a flight?

Are you a super organised traveller? Even though not all airlines release their fares a year in advance, you can start researching your flights 12 months in advance for many carriers. It’s good to book your international flights to popular destinations early, particularly in peak holiday periods. According to Wotif’s 2019 travel trends, last minute planners can also bag a bargain with some of the cheapest fares appearing 2-4 weeks prior to travel.

How can I save money on flights?

Mixing and matching your airlines and fare types is a great way to try and save on airfares. According to Wotif 2019 data, travellers who booked flights on Wotif.co.nz in 2019 saved up to 35% when their return flights had two different airlines or fare types.

Flight Class Types

Everybody has different needs when it comes to booking flight tickets, not least among them is the class of seat you'd like to book.

So what are the different flight class types?

Economy / Coach class tickets are, as the name suggests, among the cheapest airfares available. You'll find economy fares are often the best value for money with fewer bells and whistles, suitable for the budget flyer.
Premium Economy is a travel class between standard economy and business class, offering additional legroom and other amenities.
Business Class - intended for the business traveller, you can expect to pay a bit extra for the additional comforts of business class seats such as superior leg room, dining options and entertainment.
First Class - for the luxury traveller wishing to fly in supreme comfort and style, first class airfares represent the ultimate flying experience. As one might expect, the price of first class tickets is a big step up from economy.

How do I select my preferred flight class?

Simply click "Advanced Options" on the flight search wizard and you will select your choice from the Class drop-down menu. You will also have the option to refine your search results later on, to make comparisons even easier.

Multi-Stop Flights

It's often preferable to take a direct flight to your destination but sometimes it not only makes sense to stop at multiple cities, it can also be a pleasurable experience. How else could you go round the world? Whatever the reason, we make it easy to book multi-city flights in a single transaction - simply select the "Multiple destinations" tab on the flights search wizard and you can enter several flight routes at a time. Just try to give yourself a bit of time in between flights to explore beyond the airport!
