Valley Brook Cemetery

Travellers will visit the entrance of historic Valley Brook Cemetery, the final resting place of many of Breckenridge’s early residents. Surrounded by mountain scenery, the cemetery dates to the town’s mining era and contains historic headstones, family plots, and a prominent Masonic section. From the cemetery gate, your Experience Professional will introduce some of the miners, lawmen, families, and other colourful characters whose stories will reappear throughout the evening, while sharing what life—and death—was really like in early Breckenridge.

Country Boy Mine

Travellers will visit the historic Country Boy Mine, founded in 1887 in Breckenridge’s French Gulch mining district. Once known for gold and silver and later for high-grade lead and zinc, the mine offers an atmospheric glimpse into Breckenridge’s underground mining past. Your Experience Professional will share stories of the miners who worked beneath the mountain—and the unexplained experiences reported here more than a century later, including mysterious photographs, strange underground phone calls, and one particularly unsettling encounter experienced by a mine guide.

Washington Mine Site and Milling Exhibit

At the historic Washington Mine, travellers will step into Breckenridge’s hard-rock mining past, surrounded by original mining structures and equipment from an era when men spent long days working beneath the mountain. Here, your Experience Professional will explore the superstitions miners carried underground—including the mysterious Tommyknockers, unseen spirits believed to warn miners of danger or lead them towards rich ore. You’ll also discover why one seemingly innocent sound—whistling—was something a superstitious miner would never dare do underground.

Breckenridge History: High Line Railroad Park

At High Line Railway Park, travellers will see historic railway equipment, including Breckenridge’s impressive narrow-gauge Engine No. 9, and discover how the arrival of the railway transformed this once-isolated mining town. Your Experience Professional will bring to life the legendary “Big Snow” of 1898–99, when massive snowdrifts shut down rail service and residents tunneled through the snow to move around town. This stop also sets the scene for one of Breckenridge’s most notorious crimes—a hotel robbery, a deadly pursuit, and a stolen gold watch that resurfaced years later.
