Begin with a pickup from your hotel or guesthouse in Bukit Lawang. Meet your guide and listen to a short safety briefing before entering Gunung Leuser National Park. From that first step inside the park, you are in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, guided by someone who has known these trails their entire life.

The trek takes you through winding jungle trails as your guide tracks semi-wild Sumatran orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, pig-tailed macaques, long-tailed macaques, hornbills, snakes, owls, and other tropical wildlife. These are not arranged encounters. Every animal you see lives freely with no cages, no baiting, and no staging. Your guide knows where to look and how to move, and that knowledge makes all the difference.

Around midday, break for fresh tropical fruits and a full lunch prepared right there on the trail. After lunch, continue into a different section of forest, opening up new opportunities to spot more wildlife before the afternoon leads you back to the river.

End the day with river tubing down the Bahorok River, floating through pristine rainforest all the way back to Bukit Lawang village.
