What you can expect

Step into a cultural treasure house that captures the essence of Bayu heritage. Each exhibit tells the storey of Chongqing’s diverse geography, rich history, and master craftsmanship. As you walk through the gallery, you’ll discover the artistry and soul of the mountain city in every detail.

With the guidance of professional instructors, you don’t need any prior skills to join. Touch the soft texture of Rongchang hemp cloth, explore the magic of tie-dye, or feel the rhythm of traditional rope weaving. This is more than a workshop — it’s a chance to connect with history through your own hands and bring home a piece of intangible cultural heritage.

What to Expect

  1. Guided Introduction (30 min)
Tour the Chongqing Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre and see highlights from 38 districts and counties, including Rongchang hemp cloth, Dazu stone-carving crafts, Tujia brocade, Xiushan lanterns, and more.
  2. Hands-on Workshop (2 hrs)
Choose two traditional crafts to create. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn the techniques and stories behind each craft, and finish your own unique heritage piece.
  3. Showcase & Certificate (30 min)
Take photos with your works, share with others, and receive a certificate of participation.

Craft Options (choose two):
A) Rongchang Summer Cloth Painting: Paint Chongqing’s landscapes on summer cloth with plant dyes, blending natural texture with ink-style charm.
B) Tie-Dye Handkerchief: Learn Tujia tie-dye by folding, binding, and dyeing fabric to reveal unique, surprise patterns.
C) Paper-Cut Fabric Art: Recreate landmarks like Hongya Cave using paper-cut and fabric collage, bold and colourful.
D) Tassel Coaster: Weave simple knots into a coaster with flowing tassels, combining function and oriental beauty.
E) Cloisonné Enamel Coaster: Shape copper wires into patterns, fill with enamel colours, and create a gleaming, elegant coaster.
F) Fabric Fan: Craft a traditional fan with embroidery, painted flowers, and tassels—light, graceful, and cultural.
G) Lantern Craft: Assemble and decorate a paper-cut lantern, then light it up for a festive, glowing keepsake.
H) Chinese Knot Bracelet: Weave a symbolic “lucky knot” bracelet with beads or charms, perfect as a portable good-luck gift.
I) Brocade Accessories: Use Shu or Song brocade to create small accessories like pins or brooches with timeless beauty.
