What you can expect

  • Malawi prides itself on a mosaic of unique cultural practices and norms. The main traditional dances and rituals as well as arts and crafts found among the people act as an identifying factor for the many but united ethnic groups of the country.

The dances of Malawi, for instance, have deeper meaning than what appears on the surface and, accordingly, efforts have been made to keep these intact as part of Malawi’s cultural heritage and for posterity.

During this cultural experience, you'll interact with locals and learn from them. Whenever there is a traditional dance, people from the surrounding areas gather and sing soothing local music, enabling the Gule Wamkulu to dance with pride and energy.
There are Christians and Muslims but a great number of people also still believe in witch doctors, spirits and shamans, often mixing a little of both in their daily beliefs. The Malawians like to dance and masks feature prominently in their traditional ceremonies.
