Overview

Join this private day trip from Fukuoka to the beautiful Takachiho Gorge in Miyazaki Prefecture. This place is famous for its high cliffs, views of the river, and links to Japanese myths.

When you get to Takachiho Gorge, you'll see that both sides of the Gokase River are lined with high walls of volcanic rock. The cliffs were formed by volcanoes erupting long ago. They make for a dramatic landscape with lots of greenery.

Explore the famous Manai Falls. This waterfall, which goes straight into the river, is beautiful and is often the main reason people come to the area.

After seeing the gorge, the trip goes on to Takachiho Shrine, an old shrine with a lot of history and legends in Japan. An old storey says that this is where the sun goddess Amaterasu hid in a cave and turned off the lights until she was tempted to come out. Visitors may be able to see kagura dance acts at certain times. This is a traditional ceremony that tells the stories of these old myths.
