Overview

  • Discover the stories that shaped Mudgee, from Indigenous history and pioneering agriculture to religious feuds, secret tunnels, ammunition factories and an impressive number of pubs.

Explore the streets of one of NSW’s most historically distinctive towns and uncover the people, places and scandals hiding behind its charming colonial facades. As the second-oldest inland European settlement west of the Blue Mountains, Mudgee has a history packed with ambition, conflict, loss and perseverance.

Led by two young local guides whose families have called Mudgee home since the 1850s, this lively walking tour brings the town’s past to life. Hear stories of the Wiradjuri people and the region’s Indigenous heritage, alongside the dramatic and sometimes downright bizarre history of European settlement.

Come for the architecture. Stay for the scandals. Leave knowing why Mudgee is anything but ordinary.
