Meet your local guide in the Dejima area and begin beside the former Dutch trading post. Learn how this small artificial island became one of Japan’s most important gateways to European trade, knowledge, medicine, and technology during the Edo period. See the reconstructed buildings and bridge from the surrounding area while your guide explains the people and goods that once passed through Nagasaki.

Admission to the Dejima exhibition area is not included. If you wish to enter, the ticket is paid separately and the remaining route may be adjusted to fit the tour duration.

Continue to Shinchi Chinatown, one of Japan’s three major Chinatowns. Hear how the area developed from warehouses used by Chinese trading ships and how Chinese culture influenced Nagasaki’s festivals, architecture, and food.

Walk beneath the colourful gates and discover restaurants and shops offering local specialities such as champon, sara udon, kakuni manju, and castella. Food and drinks are optional and paid separately. Your guide can explain the dishes and assist with basic ordering if you decide to purchase something.

From Chinatown, continue through Nagasaki’s central streets towards the Nakashima River and Megane Bridge. Built in 1634 by a Chinese monk, the stone bridge is famous for the spectacles shape created when its arches are reflected in the water.

Take photos beside the river and learn how Chinese temples, merchants, and communities contributed to Nagasaki’s development. Your guide can adjust the walking pace and time at each stop according to your group’s interests.
