Ready for this magical day?
First stop
Alebrijes are Oaxaca's most emblematic craft. These colourful fantasy animals are made of wood. You will visit a women's cooperative, home to the town's only female master carver, and see the entire creation process. (1 hour)
Second stop
In Santo Tomás Jalieza, people still use the ancient technique of weaving with a backstrap loom. A group of women who used to be farmers are now nationally recognised for their incredible textiles. We will visit their home, where we can see the grandmother, daughters, and granddaughter working on the patio. (40 min)
Lunch time
You will enjoy Oaxacan cuisine in a small, traditional restaurant offering different meal options.
(1 hour and 20 min)
Third stop
Master Mónica is the happiest woman participating in this tour because this craft helped her make her dreams come true. She has inspired many women in her town because women were not allowed to have formal jobs there in the past. Mónica now leads a group of women who make beautiful Baroque-style wooden frames for old church paintings and mirrors. (40 min)
Fourth stop
This experience deserves a great ending, so you will enjoy a mezcal tasting at sunset.
Rosario is a young master distiller in this small town who faced a lot of criticism from the community and even from her own family. She was told that making mezcal was men's work, but she now enjoys producing mezcal by distilling it in clay pots. (1 hour and 30 min)
After this stop, we will drop you off at your hotel.
