Let yourself be guided (and enchanted)!
A tour guide certified by the Federal Association of German Tourist Guides (BVGD) will be at your side for your walking tour.
He starts his walking tour at the fountain of the Münzenberg Musicians in the Old Town's market square. The tour takes you through the picturesque alleyways, the “Hölle” (Hell), and on to GuthsMuths-Platz. From there, your route will take you over the Mühlgraben canal to the market square of the historic Neustadt, where you will see the imposing Gothic Church of St. Nicholas, both from the outside and inside. Your tour guide will show you the place where the first German female doctor with a doctorate practised and will take you past the old stock exchange, along Steinweg, to a street that is still called “Zwischen den Städten” (“Between the Towns”) to this day. Once you reach Kornmarkt, you will see the medieval Church of St. Benedict and end your walking tour at the Old Town's Marktplatz with a view of the town hall and the Roland statue.
Find out why two towns were built very close together in the Middle Ages, why our “New Town” is already over 800 years old, whether the teacher GuthsMuths was able to get his student Carl Ritter excited about physical education in the 18th century, and why it was a woman from Quedlinburg who was able to earn a medical doctorate as early as the 18th century.
