The best day trip you’ll ever have

Port Douglas is beaming all year around, so why not chase some spring time sun? With long, warm days and beautiful beaches at your door step, it’s awesome what our Aussie backyard has to offer. And Port Douglas’s laidback beach lifestyle and trendy cafes will have you unwinding as soon as you check in.

The best way to enjoy Port Douglas and its natural beauty is to take a Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation Day Tour with Down Under Tours. Their comfy air-conditioned bus will pick you up from your hotel foyer and whisk you away you to some of Port Douglas’s most iconic attractions.

Here’s a taste of what to expect.

Boat cruise on the Daintree River

Cruise through the Daintree River and (hopefully) spot some crocs. The guides will tell you where to look, but don’t focus on just the crocodiles. There is plenty of other wildlife to look out for as you pass through the rainforest, mangroves, and other habitats. If you’re lucky enough to spot the legendary Scarface, make sure you ask your guide about his battle scars. It’s quite a story.

Scarface.

Watch out, though! You may be surprised by a dangling tree snake…

Alexandra Lookout

How can one spot hold so much beauty? In one spectacular view, you’ll see the Daintree Coast – a stunning blend of rainforest greens and sparkling blue ocean. Get your camera steady, ‘cause it’s the perfect panoramic photo opportunity.

On the Turps Restaurant

Dining with a view makes any meal more enjoyable, but how about being immersed in the tranquility of the rainforest? With its open-air deck on the edge of Copper Creek, the sounds of nature will trump any meditation tunes you might put on. Sit back and enjoy a delicious tropical lunch with a selection of your favourite protein (vegetarian options also available) and tasty salads.

Walk along the beach at Cape Tribulation

Cape Tribulation is where two World Heritage sites meet – the coastline of the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. And, yep, it’s as stunning as it sounds. As soon as you step onto that white, sandy beach, you will be awed by its beauty and calmness.

Mossman Gorge Centre

Knowing some of the history behind a natural wonder helps you appreciate it even more. At the Mossman Gorge Centre, a member of the Kuku Yalanji tribe will give you a short but insightful introduction to the region’s rich Indigenous culture.

You’ll then be taken into the Daintree Rainforest itself, wowed by the knowledge that you’re entering the world’s oldest rainforest. Yes, it’s even older than the Amazon!

Extra brownie points if you spot a cassowary sometime throughout the day. But we will require proof, so make sure you upload that pic and tag @wotifcom 😉
