When the sun hasn’t come out to play and the kids say “I’m bored!” for the twentieth time before 9am, you know what you need to do. Get them and you out of the house, stat. Here are five of our favourite family things to do in Sydney when the weather gods aren’t on your side.
1. Sydney Sea Life Aquarium
An oldie but a goodie, the animal lover in adults and kids alike will get a kick out of Sydney Sea Life Aquarium. Featuring 14 themed zones with more than 13,000 colourful marine animals, there’s something for every inner undersea explorer.
2. Indoor sky-diving
Who said indoor activities have to be of the low-key variety? Burn off some energy and get the heart rate pumping as you experience all the flying, free fall and soaring sensations of skydiving without even getting on a plane. With the help of an instructor, you’ll jump in the vertical wind tunnel where you fly weightlessly in space for an unforgettable adrenaline rush in totally safe surroundings.
3. Madame Tussauds
Prepare for the kids to be star-struck as they come face-to-face with over 70 lifelike figures, all crafted from a 200 year old wax recipe. Selfies are an absolute must with favourites including Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift, Wolverine, President Obama and Ryan Gosling.
4. Coffee, cookies & cats playtime
For something pretty unique, take the kids to the Catmosphere Cat Café, arguably the cutest coffee shop in town. Order up a mug of something cosy, grab a cookie, and find a space in one of the cat rooms to settle in for an hour of feline enjoyment. Listen to the expert resident cat handlers as they offer tips on interacting with each fuzzy feline and feel good knowing that the funds from your time at the cafe go towards the care and socialisation of rescue cats and kittens.
5. Take an impromptu staycation
If you’re going to be holed up inside together on a rainy weekend, you may as well do it in style. Book a stay at a hotel in your city and enjoy the best of hotel life: room service, movies in bed, indoor heated pools, buffet breakfast and maybe even a massage for Mum and Dad. You’ll be wishing for more rainy day excuses 😉
