38 tips for a weekend in Sydney


It’s pretty unlikely you’ll ever run out of things to do in Sydney but if you need a little inspo, this list of tips from our Facebook fans and the Wotif team has you sorted.

1. Have a long lunch at Chiswick Restaurant. The Moran family lamb is what foodie dreams are made of.

2. For an amazing experience (and view), the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb is must-do.

3. Indulge your inner Italian at the Darling Pizzeria, Pyrmont.

4. Let your wild side free at Taronga Zoo.

5. Jump on the ferry to Manly and soak up the Harbour views.

6. Drool over (and eat!) burgers at Mister Gee Burger Truck.

7. Visit Australia’s largest wave pool at Wet ‘n’ Wild.

8. Feelin’ fancy? Check out BLACK by Ezard at The Star. The steaks are top notch.

9. Watch the fireworks at Darling Harbour (most) Saturday nights – the kids will love it!

10. Go horse riding at Centennial Park.

11. Plan morning or afternoon tea in The Tea Room at the Queen Victoria Building – the only question is jam or cream first on your scones?

12. For an alternative to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb, take a walk up the Pylon – still an amazing view – or simply take a walk over the Bridge and find yourself either in the Rocks or Kirribilli.

13. Have a sweet tooth? The Choc Pot Dessert Bar, with locations in the CBD, Burwood, Chatswood and Rosebery, has you sorted.

14. Visit The Powerhouse Museum, one of Australia’s largest museums. The kids (and big kids) will love the 250-plus hands-on exhibits.

15. Explore North Head at Manly for amazing views of Sydney Harbour and the city skyline.

16. For a delicious vegan hit, you NEED to check out Zeitgeist Cuisine tucked away in the CBD. Hot tip: the Commando Ed smoothie.

17. Do the ‘Bay Run’, a 7km harbor-side track that’s run, walk, cycle, pram and dog-friendly.

18. When visiting in the warmer months, book tickets for one of the many outdoor cinemas. Best enjoyed with a picnic!

19. Check out Gallon, Harris St in Pyrmont for great wine, beer, food and a killer atmosphere.

20. Love a good buffet? Gorge yourself at the Sydney Tower Buffet.

21. Get your culture on at the Art Gallery of NSW.

22. Make sure you check out The Argyle at the Rocks. Great vibe and great drinks.

23. Go snorkelling at Gordon’s Bay.

24. Bar Luca at Circular Quay has amazing burgers, beers, cocktails and more.

25. Go on a Kayak eco-tour in the Royal National Park.

26. Need a coffee hit? Go to the award-winning Gumption in The Strand Arcade. And do a little retail therapy when you’re done.

27. Grab some fish and chips from Bondi Surf Seafoods and soak up the cool Bondi vibes.

28. Get your retail therapy on. The CBD has you covered with Westfield, the QVB and the Strand Arcade. Or get your boutique on in Paddington or Mosman.

29. Take a relaxing walk through the Botanical Gardens.

30. Splash around the rock pools in beautiful Coogee.

31. On a Saturday morning, head to the Carriageworks Farmers Markets. Hot tip: Kylie Kwong’s pork buns.

32. Go for a day trip up to Avalon on the Northern Beaches to Avalon and drive back via the National Park to West Head.

33.Let your inner child free at Luna Park.

34. Go for a stroll around Darling Harbour.

35. Take the popular ocean front walk from Bondi to Coogee. Go early to try to beat the crowds.

36. Kuringai Chase is perfect for a picnic and bushwalking.

37. You can’t go to Sydney without visiting the Opera House. Sip on a few drinks at Opera Bar while you’re there.

38. Sydney LOVES musical theatre. Book tickets for a show at the Lyric Theatre, Capitol Theatre or Theatre Royal.
