Aberdeen Holiday Packages

Despite being named for a Scottish earl, Aberdeen, Hong Kong can thank the Tanka people for its unique culture. When the British first came ashore in 1841, they found Tanka fishermen living on boats in the harbour. By the 1960s, the floating villages held 150,000 boat dwellers. Today most have moved to high-rise apartment buildings on Hong Kong Island for education and job opportunities. Even so, those enjoying Aberdeen holidays can see remnants of Tanka culture in the city's floating restaurants and prevalent fishing industry.

Things to Do in Aberdeen

If you've seen the Bruce Lee classic Enter the Dragon, you've seen one of Aberdeen's most famous sites, Aberdeen Harbour. The locale has served as the backdrop for other popular movies, video games and television shows, including The Amazing Race: Australia. While there, you’ll easily spot the fishing boats where over 5,000 people continue to live today. To appreciate the local culture even more, take a ride in one of the sampans, or just stroll the Promenade, where you'll find public art and places for picnics.

The city's wholesale fish market is where fishermen sell their catch from the very early morning hours until noon. Visitors can watch as boats are unloaded and the fish is auctioned. The Fishing Market Organisation operates a gift shop at the market, where you can purchase souvenirs and fishing boat models made by local craftspeople.

Tired of the waterfront? Wotif’s Aberdeen, Hong Kong car hire deals are a great chance to see the surrounding territory. Once you’ve got a set of wheels, head for the Chinese Permanent Cemetery on the outskirts of town. The cemetery is built on hillside terraces intended to provide a view of the sea. You may also want to see the Tin Hau Temple this building, dedicated to the goddess of the sea, was constructed in 1851. Next, drive across the Ap Lei Chau Bridge to find one of Hong Kong's oldest Hung Shing temples.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Ready to get your shop on? The Aberdeen Centre Shopping Arcade is popular among locals, and is loaded with shops ranging from fashion and accessories to electronics. Next, swing by Horizon Plaza, a huge warehouse that's been converted into a shopping centre. Find antiques, furniture, carpets, clothing and more on the building's 28 floors…and buy as much as you want. You need to spend all the cash you saved on our Aberdeen holiday packages somewhere, right?

Food is an important part of any Aberdeen holiday, so get ready to try everything. The Jumbo Kingdom—the world's largest floating restaurant!—can seat around 2,300 people who come for Cantonese dishes. The Jumbo has hosted nearly 30 million visitors in its history, and the building, modelled after a Chinese palace, has been featured in many films.

Those looking to celebrate their Aberdeen packages will find lots to do in both Aberdeen itself and in greater Hong Kong. An evening harbour cruise will let you gawk at (and snap pictures of) the city’s gorgeous, lit-up skyline, or you can stick to dry land and prowl its numerous nightclubs and pubs.
