Gamla Apótekið (The old Pharmacy) is situated in the vibrant heart of Iceland's second-largest city Akureyri, or the capital of the North, renowned for its rich cultural scene, which includes captivating museums, art galleries, and theaters. The area features a delightful array of shops, cafes, and restaurants, offering both local and international cuisine. Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, it serves as an excellent base for outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing. Just across the street, you'll find the famous ice cream shop Brynja—be sure to try the delicious "old ice cream." Within walking distance, the Akureyri Botanical Garden awaits, home to the charming coffee house List, which comes highly recommended.

Gamla Apótekið (The Old Pharmacy) was built in 1859 and was one of the largest and most elegant houses in Iceland at the time, featuring a spacious ground floor and high ceilings. In 2016 and 2017, Minjavernd meticulously rebuilt the house from the ground up. It was moved off the lot, a new foundation was poured, and then it was returned to its original location. All reusable materials, including the wooden paneling on the interior walls, were incorporated into the restoration. The house was rebuilt in accordance with the new building code and the strictest fire safety requirements. Essentially, The Old Pharmacy is a new house, and few properties in Iceland have been restored with such care.

The house contains three apartments: a large apartment on the main floor and two smaller ones on the upper floor, called North and South. You will be renting the South Apartment in the upper floor.

Upper Floor Apartment South : The upper floor has a private entrance . We have one Bedroom with a King Size bed (180x200 cm) that can be converted into two single beds (90x200 cm). The bathroom has nice shower, in the living room we have a comfortable sofa that converts into a Queen Size bed (160x200 cm).
Kitchen is fully loaded with everything you need.

All interiors are top-of-the-line, bathroom is stocked with organic shampoo, body soap, hand soap and body lotion from Sóley Organics.

We also offer private parking on the property.
