Had a fantastic time at Dan’s house. Cottage is very close to both Petoskey and Harbor Springs and lots of other nearby amenities. There is a bike path at the end of the street and a grocery store/coffee shop close by. Lake has a hard sandy bottom and we caught fish right off the dock. Cottage is comfortable and clean with vintage/antique furniture. We appreciated high quality knives in the kitchen as I find most rentals have terrible knives! Easy check in process with excellent communication from host.

We had a wonderful stay-right on the lake, with a sandbar and pontoon rental nearby. There is a great path for non-motorized activity across 31 (just be careful crossing 31 as it can be busy). The house is cozy and has character. There are four spaces but not totally separate/private. Dan was responsive and helpful. I also appreciated that he was open to feedback and, as a new host, asked what we might improve for future stays. We had a lot of fun hanging out on the back porch, making meals, and making fires in the nearby fire pit.

The property listing, including pictures, in our opinion, was not accurate. The property has been neglected for many years. We are attaching actual pictures from the property. I wish we could add more! The property was very pungent with the stench of mold and mildew. I contacted the owner and he offered to send out a cleaning crew. These issues would not be resolved by a standard cleaning. There was what appeared to be mold throughout the property, the furniture was filthy, the floors were sticky, the doors and windows were filthy and many of the windows did not have screens so we couldn’t open them. There wasn’t a shower curtain in the upstairs bathroom and the tubs were dirty. The deck is rotting with protruding nails (my husband cut his foot on a nail and the owner said, “I hope he’s ok.” ). We should have left upon arrival, but it was the only time all of my kids were able to go on vacation. We were unable to find an alternate accommodation. I have never stayed in a property in such disrepair and will never do it again.

A beautiful stay on Crooked Lake. Dan just acquired the property so a couple things need to be fixed or replaced but Dan was excellent in communicating. The beds are comfortable and the house was very clean. Would definitely stay here again
