Hikes along the award-winning Heidschnuckenweg trail from Hamburg-Fischbek to Celle Castle are also possible in any season—for example, in several day-long stages.
During the peak season, a free heath shuttle runs, which even transports bicycles on its caravan.
The salt-producing and Hanseatic city of Lüneburg—well worth a visit—and the Hanseatic city of Hamburg are about a half-hour drive away.
