Had to leave in the middle of the night it was so bad.
I travel a lot. I have stayed at dozens of properties. I have never had to leave a place on day 1 in the middle of the night before. We arrived on time for check in and a family was in the house cleaning. Their children were watching tv while they worked. After they left, we looked around. The house was in bad shape. Most electrical outlets had no covers. Beds were dirty. Dead roaches were visible. Toilet seats were cracked. We tried to make the best of it. We had dinner and took the kids out. We came back at ten and the family from earlier was camped out drinking beer in the driveway with their kids banging loudly on a car. Odd noises came from the basement. This family lives in the basement we assumed. We called the property owner. He apologized but was unable to fix things. It got louder. We told the owner we couldn’t stay and he said sorry but made no offer to help or refund. We were two women traveling alone with small children. The children were scared. It was loud and we had to leave. It was a 4 hour drive home in the middle of the night with 3 small children and that was preferable to sleeping at this property. Owner didn’t help at all. On a positive note, the neighborhood is nice. It is close to 6 flags.
