Hosted by Flying Squirrel Cottages, White Laurel Cottage is nestled in the mountains at the heart of Linville Falls. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty and the location is ideal as a basecamp for exploring Linville Gorge Wilderness Area, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, and the Banner Elk ski slopes in the winter season.
Our street is private so there is no through traffic. You are very close to great hiking and biking trails as well as area Linville and Newland amenities.
Entire cabin There is a security camera at the exterior of the front door that is only accessed if a problem occurs.
We love this cottage because, while close to attractions and dining, you’re tucked away in the heart of the Pisgah National Forest and can enjoy nature’s finest pleasures.
If you enjoy conversation, reading a book, adventure such as hiking, biking, skiing this cottage is perfect. Enjoy our new high speed Starlink internet!
This cabin is pet friendly! We love to take our dogs to the mountains and hike so want to afford you the same pleasure. We ask that you limit to 2 pets in this cottage.
There are 2 bedrooms and a bath upstairs along with 2 bedrooms and a bath downstairs. Access to the downstairs is via a private outside covered stairway on the rear deck. The glassed in dining area is great for 3 season use, it is unheated so winter meals are better enjoyed at the inside table next to the fireplace.
We have Starlink internet service.
Due to a large increase in booking volume and the cleaning process our team adheres to requiring the full turnover window, early checkin or late checkout aren't possible.
A combo drip-style and pod coffee maker are available for your use. Ground coffee is provided for your convenience.
Our hot tub is serviced weekly by a certified technician. The hot tub is generally in very good condition for our guests to enjoy. Periodically our cleaning team or a guest will find the tub needing service in between the weekly service visits. (Typically, this happens when a prior guest does not follow our spa guide and the water becomes discolored, low on water, etc.) Our technician lives in the area and can come to service the spa within 24hrs. For this reason, we cannot guarantee or warrant the condition of the spa.
We have a nice outdoor firepit, we do not supply the wood however it can be purchased at a local convenience store by the bundle or you may choose to bring your own.

Not a great experience
We really wanted to like this little cottage but a series of smaller issues added up to some frustrations and a lack of enjoyment in our overall experience.
The positives: It is a cute place with some nice decor. There is a hot tub. The grill worked fine and everything in the upstairs kitchen was functional.
The negatives: The troubles began as soon as we arrived on a very chilly evening. We couldn't get the heater in the basement to work (up and downstairs have a single wall unit heater/air conditioner controlled by a remote). We were able to get into contact with someone after a while (cell service is terrible). We figured out that the remote needed batteries so we borrowed the upstairs remote to get the downstairs one working. Next, we couldn't get the wifi to work. Another call this time to property owner who gave us a new password. The one listed in the info book was wrong. The next morning we discovered that the downstairs coffee pot was broken and non-functional. The deadbolt lock downstairs was also broken.
Other issues: Some of the sheets felt "gritty" as if there was sand in them and there was some dog hair on them. Some of the towels has a musty smell as if they were put away damp. We found several VERY dirty dishes put away in the cabinet. We also couldn't figure out how to use the gas fireplace. The informational book had no directions.
We emailed and texted all of these issues the next morning to the owner and property manager but the only response we got was that it was being passed on to the "team". Nothing was actually resolved.
We would not stay at this property again. We did not feel that it was a good value for the price paid and the cleanliness needs to be improved. It looks like some more regular maintenance is needed.

SERIOUS COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS
Well, just when we received the instructions for check in we received information that phone signal was bad, in fact when we arrived there it was ZERO, no way to connect with any phone operator. We thought it was OK because there was WIFI but the internet package or provider was terrible, the internet connection was not even to run any social platform (used for communication), nor e-mail nor chats. When contacted the property about it they said we should watch DVD´s. That´s Ok either since we´re not looking for Internet for entertainment. In the first night we started to have power outage problems, we even understand that the serious weather should be the problem but all in the house was moved by electricity even the water since it was controlled by a electrical pump and when the outages comes we had no power, no water, no place to make food and worst, we have no communication as the only available WIFI was also disconnected. Contacting the property, when possible, the solution gave ty them was keep waiting the power supply to be restored. So, having power problems, snow showers, no water, no cooking and no communication we decided to leave the property and go back home. Unfortunately our Xmas was really sad since we paid the property to have good moments and an incredible xmas but we had only headaches instead. The property owner should, at least, inform from now on that communication is almost zero in order to alert people not to rent it unless they are Ok to be uncommunicable.

Woodsy getaway
The cabin was nice. Located on a gravel road, just off of the main highway, private back area. Loved the fire pit & hot tub area. The hot tub was clean & in good working order. They provided plenty of towels, paper towels, toilet paper etc. The check in was easy, just a simple code that worked perfectly. The check out rules were the easiest I have ever experienced. Just put the towels in the laundry room. Take the trash out to the can in the driveway. Leave the beds unmade & turn on the dishwasher. Simple & sensible. Two nice swings on the porches. A beautiful rock wall to look at across the gravel road. I plan on staying here again next year!

UNDISCLOSED CAMERAS, NO PRIVACY!!! NASTY HOT TUB!!!
There is an undisclosed camera on the back porch overlooking the inside of the kitchen and living room as well as the hot tub and back yard areas. We found it on the last day and VRBO has refused to do anything about this gross invasion of privacy and complete ignorance of policy.
The first day we arrived at the appointed check-in time and the maid showed up an hour after arrival. We had no privacy for 3 hours after our arrival. It was uncomfortable. From about 4PM to about 7PM there was a chainsaw running next door (200 Meters away) which was reverberating on all the glass in the house and causing a nasty headache for us both.
The second day, Monday the 8th there was a landscaping crew parked right in front of the house ALL DAY LONG. They did not leave until after dark and the crew continued to creep on my wife at every opportunity. We didn't go outside due to the noise from blowers and yard equipment as well as the creepy guy leering at my wife constantly and, as nearly everything is closed in the area Mon-Tues there was nowhere to go and nothing to do.
There was a car driving by every half hour during the entirety of our stay during the day, it was NOT PRIVATE AT ALL. The hot tub can be viewed from the street as well as the house across the road.
The hot tub had disgusting brown/tan film all around the edge of the tub as well as on the water. We tried to clear it off but it just kept coming back. Did not use the spa more than once. This was one of the big reasons we booked this location. Extremely dissapointing.
The propane ran out on day 2. No more fireplace. Heat is almost nonexistent in the bedrooms unless you leave the doors open to the living area. Yet another reason we booked this over others and yet again, disappointment.
Did not enjoy. The internet service was constantly not working and therefore the TV as well since the Dish Hopper they have requires an internet connection. Since we couldn't go outside much due to the traffic, landscapers, chainsaws and other issues we would have been better off to stay home.
Emailed these issues to the property owners, no reply for a month. So I am leaving this review.
AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU VALUE PRIVACY OR THINGS THAT WORK.

fantastic family get away
The house was fantastic, just as advertised. The home was stocked with games, firewood for the pit, gas for the grill...etc. Perfect outdoor spaces for playing games, family dinners and quite reading on the back swing overlooking the hill of ferns and mountain Laurel. Would definitely recommend.
