Battista: Heritage luxury in the heart of Ballarat
Battista is more than a place to stay – it’s an unforgettable experience. This fully restored 1800s Baptist church, recently featured on ABC’s Restoration Australia (Season 3, Episode 5), has been transformed into a luxurious one-bedroom retreat right in the heart of Ballarat.
Step inside and be wowed by the soaring vaulted ceilings, heritage stone walls, and grand arched windows that flood the space with natural light. Every detail of the restoration has been carried out with care, creating a home that’s both breathtaking and welcoming. Guests describe it as “stunning, restful, relaxing and conveniently located” and “nothing like we have ever seen.”
The apartment is designed for two, with a spacious king-size bed often hailed as “the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in.” The indulgent ensuite features a walk-in shower and a freestanding bath, complete with bath salts ready for you to unwind.
Two stylish living areas, a cosy reading nook, and recliner couches make it easy to relax, while high-tech systems ensure comfort, security, and theatre-quality sound. A hidden, fully equipped kitchen keeps everything practical close at hand, and with local treats stocked plus breakfast vouchers for L’Espresso just around the corner, you’ll feel completely spoiled.
Hospitality is at the heart of Battista. Whether it’s a warm welcome from your hosts, tips on the best local restaurants, or even a cold local beer on a hot Ballarat day, little touches make your stay feel personal and memorable.
From your doorstep, you can walk to Ballarat’s sophisticated bar and restaurant scene, wander Lake Wendouree, browse the farmers markets, or explore the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Foto Biennale. For a step back in time, Sovereign Hill and Kryal Castle are a short drive away.
Battista is more than accommodation – it’s a true destination. Guests call it “an absolute privilege to stay” and “luxury plus.” If you want to treat yourself to something extraordinary, this is the place.

Staying at Battista in Ballarat
A stay in such an historic building yet one where the luxurious apartment is as close to perfection as one could hope for. If one could select 6 Stars then this place would get that hands down.
The service and communication from the host is also first rate.
Breakfast, (included) is at a funky cafe nearby. Clearly popular, it was packed every day and after sampling the fare it becomes clear why. Yummo!
Stayed for a couple of days and used as a base to roam far and wide to surrounding towns. At night a few drinks at the corner pub and a spot of theatre to wind up the trip. All made so much more enjoyable knowing that a short walk and I was 'home'. Honestly the place is so nice one could simply choose to stay in, share a meal and relax.
Highly recommended.
