I travel all over the country for work and I have to say this is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in.Not only for the history and the premium look of the hotel but the service, the staff, breakfast, room quality, bathroom shower where all with spot on. If you are needing to stay near here make sure it’s at this hotel, thank me later 5 stars.

Embarrassing hold up in check in when we got through a total of four different bank cards before their system allowed one to be used as a holding card ( there is no issues with our cards!). I checked did it need to be the card we used to book and was told no “any card is fine” when this wasn’t obviously the case. Not a great start to my husbands birthday treat. I booked dinner bed and breakfast package but there was no explanation of what the limitations were anywhere and we asked at dinner and they couldn’t tell us either but said reception would be able to tell us when we check out?! Bit late then to find how much allowance we had?! Reception huge queue checking out and one receptionist (I think the male manager) then started checking out cards that had been left of his desk rather than dealing with the people waiting in the queue - just. Doesn’t give you the impression that you really matter or he really cares. The place is beautiful and so are rooms and food but although staff were mainly polite it doesn’t give the same level of service that we have had at other similarly priced establishments

Very clean and tidy, staff polite and attentive. Attention to finer detail carpet stains and dirty chairs could sorted, as a 4 star hotel. Would stay again as overall great experience.

Room was compact but had everything we needed for a 1 night stay. The bed was 2 singles zipped together but as there wasn't a mattress topper over the two singles, there was a dip in the middle of the bed. The bathroom was excellent. The bar was disappointing - cold and uncomfortable with limited seating options. Staff did not welcome us or acknowledge us as we stood at the bar for 15 mins waiting to order (the only the couple waiting walked out). Once we were finally asked what we wanted to drink, it took a further 35 mins to receive it. Breakfast was superb. Staff were efficient, attentive and friendly. The selection was extensive and quality of food excellent.
