I had an amazing stay at The Merchant in Salem. The hospitality was outstanding from the moment I arrived — the environment felt warm, welcoming, and very family-oriented. One of the highlights was definitely the homemade snacks; they were truly exceptional and made the stay feel even more personal. The property is spotless, and the level of care put into keeping everything clean really stands out. The location is also perfect, close enough to walk to the main attractions and enjoy the city comfortably. Overall, the attention, comfort, and charm of this hotel made my experience unforgettable. Highly recommended.

The house was amazing. It felt like a bed and breakfast with a stocked kitchen and daily warm baked treats left out for you. Perfect location. Living room with fire places to cozy up to. Everyone who worked here felt like a friend. 10/10 would recommend this !! Also, not haunted so you can relax when you come in for the night!

I enjoyed my stay at the Merchant. I loved the history of the property, its location, the extra comfort touches everywhere in both the common areas and the individual rooms. The small deck in the rear of the building offered a pleasant seating area outside, the property is well maintained inside and out. Loved being able to walk everywhere, can’t wait to return to Salem and the Merchant.

I absolutely loved my stay at The Merchant. The building is beautiful and full of character. The kitchen was impressively stocked with healthy options like overnight oats, chia pudding, yogurt parfait and even hot cider and chocolate chip cookies. I also loved the Nespresso coffee and tea selection. The living room was our favorite spot calm, cozy, and perfect for relaxing by the fireplace with tea before bed. Everything about the atmosphere felt peaceful and welcoming. The only small thing to note as is expected in charming old buildings is that sound carries more than you might think. It caught me a bit off guard, but it’s just part of the historic charm!

Our stay at The Merchant was excellent!!! It was a historical landmark and we looked up the background of it. The location was great!!! Walking distance to everything around Salem. With only 11 rooms it was quite nice. Megan was very friendly and she made our stay there wonderful. Definitely recommend staying there. Thank you.

This historic hotel had a modern interior that did not disappoint. The fireplace in our room kept us cozy at night. Daily breakfast and sweet treats and warm cider in the afternoon were wonderful. The staff used texts to communicate with us to ensure we had everything we needed. As soon as you step out of the Merchants front door you are footsteps from restaurants, shops and local attractions. 10/10 recommend. I will definitely stay here again!

The women at the front desk are the best - kind and ready to do whatever you need to make your stay comfortable. Parking is a little tricky so leave the car at home if possible - everything is within walking distance because the location is perfect. Rooms are comfortable and the front desk provides a lot of treats you will enjoy!

Stayed here for my birthday for the second year in a row and had the best experience! Staff was super helpful and checked in frequently to ensure we were having the best experience possible. Absolutely love the cookies at night and the fresh scones in the morning. You cannot beat the location and you truly feel like you are staying somewhere historical. Looking forward to our next stay!

Fairly nice rooms but noise level and level cooling was lacking based upon price point. Hotel is unstaffed after 5 pm. Room rate included a breakfast but we never saw breakfast arrive as expected the option promised other than self service options for breakfast.

I absolutely loved my stay! My dream place in Salem! The kindness of the staff, the cleanliness, the location, the price—everything is perfect! I have never slept so well in a bed as the one I had there. Plus, they offer cookies and scones starting at 4 p.m., and delightful morning treats at 9 a.m.! There’s limited on-site parking available, as well as another lot not far away. I’ve found my place to stay in Salem—50/5 stars! I can’t wait to come back, thank you for everything!
