The first Games, held in October 1850, were a mixture of athletics and also traditional country sports such as quoits, football and cricket. These early Games sometimes included a ' fun' event; once a wheelbarrow race, another year an old woman's race for a pound of tea, these events were not usually a part of the general programme. The Wenlock Olympian Society Annual Games are still held, every July, at the Windmill Field though this area is now designated the Gaskell Recreation Ground. Lovely setting
This is our 8th stay here. It's a lovely lodge in a peaceful, rural setting with a few other lodges surrounding it. It is really well equipped, comfortable an excellent find. We originally came for the steam railway that's nearby but our son lives close by so it's convenient for visiting. Jan and Paul are great hosts, nothing to much trouble and it's always spotless.

Check before you go!
Great location with plenty of walks right from the lodge. Nice walk through nature reserve and along river into Bridgenorth. Nice set out lodge and we loved the sauna. Unfortunately a lack of, possibly, maintenance of some of the electric items let us down somewhat. The dishwasher and bedroom TV both didn’t work. There was no bread maker which we had planned to use. Unfortunately the owners chose not to share this information until we arrived. This was a shame as we would have still gone but knowing ahead would have been nice. Both the oven and microwave could have been cleaner. Care was needed on the decking as this was very slippery. We would recommend this lodge if the above issues were addressed.

Eardington Lodge Weekend Stay
We were all very impressed with lodge. Very clean. Every possible item you could want was there and more. Dishwasher wasn't working but with there being four of us washing up wasn't a problem. Some of the info regarding nearest eating places was out of date. The Swan Inn was a real disappointment. And the Bulls Head which was fantastic have not offered a taxi service for the last four years. But all in all we had what we all needed a peaceful and enjoyable weekend. It's a lovely part of the country and lots to do very close by.

W/c leaks, sewerage smells now and then.
This is not a Greek villa, but nicely set out, it's a shame that the lake is hidden behind trees and vegetation, the place is very well equipped, also very quiet.

Set near Astbury Falls, in a gated community, Bentley Lodge offer a peaceful retreat with the soothing sounds of birdsong and the waterfall. The lodge offers comfortable and clean accommodation with a well equipped kitchen. We very much enjoyed the veranda, sitting out on an evening watching the birds. It is a very good location to act as your base to explore the beautiful towns and countryside of Shropshire.

Lovely cabin in beautiful area
We stayed in the cabin last week and was very impressed with how lovely the cabin was. It was very clean and homely and had everything you needed for your stay. The sauna was especially good an excellent way to relax and unwind after walking round the area. The added touch of wine, biscuits and cake was more than expected. The only issue we had which turned out to be quite a big issue was with the beds. The mattress was very uncomfortable which resulted in us having two nights of no sleep. For anyone who enjoys a very soft mattress this wouldn't be an issue but unfortunately for us we couldn't sleep on it. Both beds were the same. This resulted in us being extremely tired and didn't enjoy the relaxing weekend that we hoped for. The rest of the lodge was beautiful though but unfortunately we wouldn't stay again unless the mattresses were changed. The neighbours were very friendly and approachable and it's not a far walk into the town.

What a great find this Pine Lodge was. Four of us stayed for 2 days and we all had a relaxing time. It has everything you will ever need for your stay. The hosts are very helpful if you have any queries or questions. Lovely little touch was finding an enjoyable bottle of wine and some milk in the fridge, there was also a box of yummy cakes and a packet of biscuits too. As it was a bank holiday we found it very difficult to book a taxi to Bridgnorth, this didn't worry us though as we really enjoyed ordering a takeaway and sitting eating it on the balcony. We will return to this delightful Lodge at some point and have no hesitation recommending it to anyone

Our week in Bentley Lodge is coming to a close and sadly we will be leaving Saturday morning to head north. We have thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful relaxing week long stay in premises so well stocked with the bits and pieces that being overseas visitors we would have to go without or have to carry around the country for example spices, salt and pepper, tea & coffee and the like. The welcome package that you left for us was most welcome and a delight to find, thank you. In Australia we have some unique animals but it was relaxing to sit on the deck and watch the squirrels feeding in the morning. If we return to the UK, Bentley Lodge would be the first place to be added to our itinerary and we would have no hesitation in recommending your property as it is the best that we have stayed in.
