Odd hotel layout. Bar service was slow but it was busy. Did not want to serve from the bar but for a while appeared only to be 1 person serving. Beds very comfortable. Dog friendly.

Wonderful - but family rooms need a mini fridge

Wonderful stay! Came for a long weekend with two small children. The room with an annex was perfect, everyone was very understanding of the kids needs. Perfect location - really felt magical to see the horses outside every time you step out of the property. Going to the “beach” just A few steps away was so perfect for my kids! Cons: the carpet in our room needed replacing and was badly fraying by the baseboards. The pool area needs a good updating but would be a beautiful space once renovated (which is in progress). Family rooms would really benefit from a mini-fridge.

Lovely stay. Nice ambiance. Busy due to Easter weekend with lots of lovely dogs however service was brilliant with very friendly staff. Food delicious. Room was adequate but not a great view - a wall so that was a shame - I wonder how rooms are allocated? Bathroom was fine but very small. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Our room was clean and comfortable, only issues were lack of power points near the bed (for charging phones, using laptops, etc),bed side lamps would be more convenient for comfortable lighting, and also the bed seemed to be only standard size double when most these days are king size. However I must thank the staff for their help and consideration as I became quite ill overnight on our stay, they were very patient while my wife looked after me and organised our room for another night.

Quite disappointed

Quite disappointed by this stay. The position of th hotel is lovely but the hotel itself has many issues. Extraction fan going 24 hours. Spoke to reception on 4 occasions but it was turned off over night only once. I gave up in the end as I was getting no support from staff. Superior room was poor. Bathroom not very clean Products in bathroom had no branding and looked cheap in brown containers. No idea what it was. Pillows hard No fridge No safe For the price I would expect better Only one menu although advertising 2 restaurants. Some staff good some a little disinterested. 3 billing errors in 3 transactions

Disappointing Stay – Not Truly Family-Friendly

I recently stayed at Balmer Lawn Hotel, expecting a relaxing and family-friendly experience, but unfortunately, it fell short. The bedroom and bathroom felt quite tired and in need of an update—not what I’d expect from a four-star hotel. Despite being advertised as a family-friendly hotel, the pool was closed to children for most of the day. It seems they are trying to cater to both families and adults seeking a spa retreat, but in reality, they can’t have it both ways without disappointing one group. Another frustrating aspect was the extra charge for coffee at breakfast—£4 per cup! I’ve never encountered that at any other hotel, and for the price of the stay, it felt excessive. The hotel keeps mentioning plans to upgrade the spa and pool, but I paid for the experience as it is now, not for what it might be in the future. Given the cost of our stay, I expected much better. Having said that, the location was perfect and staff were friendly. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. It’s overpriced, poorly balanced between being a family hotel and a spa retreat, and simply not worth the money.

The restaurant was excellent all the staff were nicely dress and very efficient, pricing was reasonable for this star hotel. Our room was lovely and clean with excellent bedding and towels. The spa is well worth a visit one of the best we have tried in recent months and the staff 1st class. Plenty of car parking but the reception forgot to make a note of my registration apart from that highly recommended. R Bristol

Lovely food, great staff team but under renovation

The weekend was all about the spa, and when we arrived the spa was having refurbish so there was noisy drilling going on and treatments had to be moved to a bedroom in some circumstances. The spa is really tired and the toilets and showers weren't working. All of this was communicated by signage at the venue but nothing was mentioned on booking. I rang up to ask about spa use and it wasn't mentioned then either. As I was booking specifically for a relaxing spa weekend, I would have chosen somewhere else had I know they had renovation work ongoing until April. The food was lovely and the staff were great. The superior room was nice, but superior isn't nescafe sachets and uht milk unfortunately.
